I agree with the above post. Good for you bud. BUT...I also agree that it is good business to have good looking people in that role.

My better half is an F/A for an airline and we've had countless discussions on this topic (overweight FAs) because she works with them all of the time.

What it comes down to is...

If an FA can't easily fit down the aisle (and in an emergency situation they may even have to RUN) and they have to get down on their hands and knees to arm and disarm the slides then it's not safe---regardless of the way they look or their sexual preference.

I thought I'd throw the topic out there to see what others in the industry think.

Just because they appear to be fat or unable to perform in an emergency situation doesn't mean they won't. I don't know how ours (WS) or anyone else train their FA's but I would imagine that there is an acceptable level of performance that has to be demonstrated during training, no?

I'm not sure if they yo-yo up and down between annual training sessions but yes; they have to perform to the standard every year.

YYC the place to be wrote:When a flight attendant has to get down on all fours to disengage a slide then that's not being able to do your job. True story...
Wait a minute. Isn't this the same FA who found my wallet, put my baby and the rest of the pax to sleep, fixed the tv channel so I could fake laughter with other pax, make cheesey, stupid, crummy jokes over the PA and has to come to work with a fake smile or else? Give them a break. These are the hardest working FAs in the industry. Either that or the commercials are false. Ya think? :o

From what "I heard" most of the commercials are taken from real occurences...ie: a flight attendant found a briefcase left on board and the gentleman had already left the airport....she dropped it off at his home or office as it was on her way home. The advertisers put their own spin on these stories, something that I feel makes them seem a little "creepy."

My G/f works for WJA, and one thing I can tell you while they all don't love going to work everyday (just like the rest of us) they really are that peppy and happy most of the time all on their own.

I wonder why? She makes close to 40K/year which supplements our income nicely, they throw her a cheque for usually over $1000 twice a year, and shes got great health benefits to boot, and for her young age a very nice investment portfolio and RRSP savings, I can't say that about anyone else her age I've ever met.

It just goes to show when a company takes care of their own first, they get a lot of really dedicated employees, and while the Kool-aid antics get a little annoying at times, I put up with her

Wow.
I know! Amazing how we really do like our jobs no matter how many Air Canada employees try to tell us otherwise. But we understand, we know where you work.

Thanks for spending so much time on a Westjet forum between pairings Captain, our interview process is pretty tight, this is the closest you'll ever get. Ya ya, I know your just here to be a jerk.

I had forgotten just how much fun one can have around here  . All jokes aside folks, we have some "overwieght" men and women FAs at the evil empire as well. It is a bit of a safety concern but not to the point that I would take some of the stuff on this thread too seriously. In fact, I find that some of them are less lazy than the the young, thin, "princesses" we have. One last thing before I go. Nevermind critisizing the FAs. Some pilots around here need to get a thicker skin. Stay cool aviators. See ya!! 8)

All joking aside here, are there any regulations for an airline to release an FA and/or a pilot for that matter for getting too fat? It sounds like a silly question, but if some FA balloons up to 350 pounds, that is a serious safety concern...
