What I heard of about not wearing a beard because of O2 masks was also a problem about beauty products you were using . Seems like some products containing paraffin and some other products would become highly flamabble and react really quickly when in contact with large amount of pure oxygen. I personnaly don't think that having your face on fire is a good thing to add to your workload when you're dealing with decompression of your aircraft and have to put on the O2 masks
Don't know if it's true, but that's what I heard!

this may have been said i skipped a few posts
To answer the debate on facial hair many industries limit it to a trimmedmustache to prevent any posible interference with O2 mask fitment. The turban thing would be a matter of company policy, which might relate to locations served by that airline ie. you probably would'nt want to wear a turban on a route to say... dallas...or mississippi?
Finally as to the kirpan thing students in high schools are permitted (by religous leaders) to wear a special kind of kirpan which is basically a decorated hilt permanently secured in the sheath which allows them to comply with there religon while obeying the 0 toloerance to weapons policy of the school. If the person was bound and determined to wear a kirpan then they could probably use one of these, provided of course they could get it past the screeners.

Makes sense to me that positive flow type regulators would be fine, but on-demand style ones would probably have a problem.
Personally, I think that a full beard would tend to be a little much. But as for turbans... don't care really. Thing is though, I think if one guy can't, nobody can.
I also think, that when it comes to cerimonial daggers and such, that we should adopt a policy like MEA: We don't like it, we don't take you. I think it was MEA that didn't let two guys on who had briefcases with "diplomatic papers" on board, and it turned out they were terrorists (think this was a while ago).
No leathermans or gerbers? In the warm areas of the world, I agree. But you can go tell that to a pilot up north.
Just my ops.
