Hey Froggy, not sure where you came from, but I've been to the strippers in every province in this country and quite a few of the states (not sure if I should be bragging about that or not....
) and the girls in Thunder Bay were as good or better than most. Unless of course you frequented The St Louis, which is closed now.

Re: yqt
hehe, you know the old joke.... "How do you know if there's a pilot in the bar?? Don't worry, he'll tell you!"oldncold wrote:120,000 people

Stay away from Limbrick Avenue & James Street area. That's where I lived while I was in college and it was a hole.
Oh ya, enjoy the smell from the paper mill. After a while you'll start to make yourself believe it's like a BBQ smell...
Not even sure what bars are there anymore. Thursdays was formerly O'tooles night, and then Friday/Saturdays cold either be Crocks n' Rolls, the Intowner (think I caught Trooper there one night), and someplace that used to have an Airplane in it (can't remember the name).
Lakhead had a pretty good bar as well.
Either way, good college/university town... Bit of a culture change though for those moving there from bigger cities... At least it was for me.

Finally! An area on this forum in which I have some expertise. Boozing in Thunder Bay.
First off let me say that Thunder Bay is a wonderful, magical place when it comes to it's bars and its women. For such a sunny northern destination it really out does itself. Let me give you a breakdown on the spots you will want to check out on a regular basis to maximize your boozing/girl factor.
Mondays - Kind of a dead night. Your best bet on a Monday is to go check out Centerfolds, the local strip joint. Its remarkably good on Monday, they even had a feature last time I was there on a Monday. Failing that, check out Chicago Joe's inside the Victoria Inn on Arthur, right by the airport. Its got a pitcher and 20 of the best wings I have ever tasted on for $20 Mondays-Thrusdays. You can always count on this as a fall back when other boozing plans go to shit.
Tuesdays - This is another toss up night. You can check out CJs on these nights as stated above. Also, The Outpost (LU bar) runs a little thing on Tuesdays which provides excellent oportunity to get wasted.
Wednesday - Alright, now we are talking. This is where the party gets started. I would suggest talking the rest of the week off in order to get wasted. Wednesdays are Roxy's nights. I would rate this place about a 7 out of 10 on the Thunder Bay bar scale. The music is alright, but the real draw of the Roxy's night is $6 pitchers. Go on an empty stomach and annhilate yourself for under $20 bucks. As far as the women situation goes at this place, its not the best in town, but there are adequate pickings
Also, this is an Apollo night. $12.50 pitcher of beer plus a pound of wings. Also its an open mike night, so if you are into live music, this is the hottest spot on Wednesday.
Thursday - Pub night @ the Outpost. Here you will enjoy $2.50 drinks before 11pm. I personally recommend getting there around 10pm or so and hammer down as many beers as possible in the hour so as to maximize 'fun' time after the cheap drink extravaganza ends. This is one of those places where you really never get tired of. The music is generally pretty good, the bartenders are all kinds of beautiful, and the amount of LU girls frolicking is enough to keep any heterosexual man quite vigourously entertained. 8.5 on the Thunder Bay bar scale. Also a point to note is that this bar is located on the campus, which increases the chances significantly of waking up in a strange room as residence is located a hop, skip and a jump away.
Friday - Warp 9 night. It has been described by some of my buddies from out of town as "a magical place". This place is crawling with girls on any given friday night. And there is something for every man's taste. Drinks are fairly reasonable and the music is okay, but sometimes can be dogshit. The only way to really get a sense of warp 9 is to go there yourself. 8 out of 10 on the Thunder Bay bar scale.
Saturday - Couple of options here. The most failsafe most of the time is Armani's. Probably with the reputation of the most upscale bar/club in Thunder Bay, it provides an environment with excellent music and lots of eye candy. You have to be on your A game generally when you go to pick up at Armani's however, as the girls seem to have the whole 'look but don't touch' attitude generally speaking. Good place and well rounded. 9 out of 10 on the scale
The other option on a saturday is the Alamo. Particularly good in the summer time, the Alamo is located on the other end of town close to the casino. Wide selection of beers and a pretty decent clientle, it provides a nice little change of pace from Armani's when one is warranted. 7.5 out of 10.
One last option on a Saturday is scuttlebutts. This place has a live band cooking on these nights. An older crowd usually dominates the place and booze is rather expensive compared to other places. Not one of my favourites. 5 out of 10. (only because they sell booze)
Sunday - The inntowner is the place to be. Always hopping on a long weekend, this place has all kinds of character and you can do alright for yourself in the female department on the right night. Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. 7 out of 10.
A couple of honourable mentions need to go out.
The Fox and the Hedgehog is a great little pub with lots on tap and the severs wear kilts. Need I say more?
And the Madhouse is a pretty chill joint. Good beers out of the tap and pretty relaxing atmosphere.
Either one of these places would serve as an excellent subsitute for the regular places if you so elected to do so.
I hope this little outline was helpful to all candidates wishing to booze it in YQT.
