Maybe they suspected an armadillo?Meatservo wrote:Years ago, when I played bass for a long-forgotten rock band, I would keep my prosthesis wrapped in aluminium foil. One day it was detected by the "wand" scanner wielded by a security agent,and I was forced to pull it out of my pants in front of all my band-mates. Worse, we were being filmed for a documentary at the time and my prosthesis was exposed in front of many people. It was humiliating.

Co-joe, if you are using the NEXUS card to go to work then it's likely you would lose it, it's for trusted "travelers" besides that as fish stated, the RAIC allows you to use the nexus line. I've seen pilots use the nexus card coming back from somewhere but I suspect if a ramp guy uses it to go through regular passenger screening to skip the explosives screening and then work the ramp, they would lose both privileges if caught.co-joe wrote:Right, ok, but what I'm saying is that the raic has nothing to do with security. It's to get you airside. The nexus card is to get you through security with less hassle.av8ts wrote:Not quite correct, Blank RAICs and the handheld RAIC readers are distributed to airports by CATSA and they are responsible for fixing any issues with the RAICs and readers.co-joe wrote:Despite the fact that the information collected is basically the same, the RAIC has nothing to do with CATSA. You need to go get a NEXUS card. $50 and a few hours of your time well spent if you go through security more than twice a year, I'd do it.
The NEXUS card does not allow you to bypass screening, just an expedited line and where there is a NPS checkpoint and you are working, you are obligated to use it.

The following trusted travellers are eligible to use these lines, with valid ID:
members of NEXUS and Global Entry programs;
Canadian and U.S. military in uniform; and
international aircrew in uniform.

NEXUS Cards
NEXUS cards are issued by the Canada Border Services Agency to provide low-risk travellers with faster customs and immigration processing when crossing the border between Canada and the U.S.
During peak travel periods, CATSA typically offers NEXUS members a dedicated entrance that allows them to proceed directly to the front of the screening line, resulting in shorter wait times. NEXUS card holders still have to undergo security screening.
