What do you think of the new uniforms?

Totally agree with Duranium, there is a not that small percentage of the pilot group as well as the In flight that need some counselling.
I know It is addressed with the flight attendants but not to my knowledge with the pilots. Just because you are a sheep farmer in your other life, does not mean you should not be well turned out in the profession that allows you to be said farmer ( apologies to the sheep farmers who are)

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
If they cared how we look they wouldn't supply MC hammer suit pants (thankfully this is changing now, although maybe a bit too much to the other extreme).
If they had a real uniform fitting like some other airlines, with a tailor and actual adjustments made that would be a start. So many pilots walking around in unhemmed or poorly hemmed balloon looking pants, shirts 2x too big (that haven't been ironed in a year), jacket unbuttoned etc. A lot could be done to up the image if it would actually get enforced.
Sorry for the grammar.

I think allowing facial hair is a huge mistake.
Also, the uniform police need to be out in full force.
There are many slobs out there and it reflects poorly on the brand and your fellow colleagues..
Passengers see and notice much more than you think.

...Seems they are going to remove the axe and the control column from the cockpits for security reasons.
Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
Seriously? Beards can be well kept and neat, and the new guidelines are strict. The idea that facial hair is automatically unprofessional went out with the cold war.Redwine wrote:I think allowing facial hair is a huge mistake.

Beard hair must be moderately styled, clean and neatly trimmed/manicured, and should not exceed 0.5 inches in length. Unshaven is not considered acceptable lol. So i guess you must grow your beard on days off? lol
Moustaches must be neatly groomed, top lip visible, and not extending past corners of mouth. (no waxed, handlebar or "extreme" moustaches allowed) lol.

Sometimes always never...
Sometimes: both tunic buttons fastened
Always: top button fastened
Never: both buttons undone
Does anyone else agree?

This means that you need to have a neatly shaped beard. Shave your neck and have a good beard line on your jaw and cheeks.
You can't come in completely unshaven.

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
You can grow it during work if you do what you say here. I'm still going to wait for some other people to rock a beard before I start. I had one before and kinda accepted the fact that going to an airline meant no beard for the rest of my life. So I'm kinda excited to see it trend this way.flymore wrote:Unshaven is not acceptable.

Side note, I could probably go look and find it but does anyone know the tattoo policy off the top of their head? I've seen a few pilots walking around with ones poking below their short sleeves.

%100 agree. Nothing worse than both undone, coupled with 2 week old wrinkled pants that bunch at the ankle.Monorail Conductor wrote:Sometimes always never...

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
I went in with a stubble and saw another guy with one. It definitely is awkward and felt kind of wrong. For now, I'm only doing it with captains I know.
I think it will take a while for the culture to sink in, perhaps a couple of years. It's all good, as long as a captain doesn't use that against you, to look for other reasons to discredit or report you,

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
Was in YUL the other day and bumped into two guys with full beards. Honestly, it looked fine. They were nice, well trimmed and professional. That was Jazz. I also saw a mainline guy in YWG the same pairing with a stubbly beard... it needed some work (in the time department) but it still looked fine. I think so long as people take the grooming seriously it will not be an issue. I recall seeing a lot of the WOW air pilots with beards back in the training hotel in YYZ. I didn't even think twice about it since they were clean and professional.

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
Just did my fitting today and liked it all except for the hat. I found it funny that despite the "fitting" appointment it is essentially off the rack sizing.
They just want to babysit you cause guys probably just shrug their shoulders and order ill fitting garments. I needed longer sleeves for the tunic and the woman said that it used to be no problem but the company got annoyed because they deemed it was being overused, hello bean counters.
So use the term "fitted" loosely (no pun intended

At least it'll be warm in hell...
Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
At first I was glad the rule was relaxed. Since then, I have seen 1 day stubble, a soul patch, a goatee and someone that looked like Wolfman Jack. Guess I am just jealous.Redwine wrote:I think allowing facial hair is a huge mistake.

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
I liked the new uniform. It's a nice update especially for fit. Wings/tie/hat, all the other stuff; it's all fine. Not perfect but for a uniform I think it's decent. The stuff all fit me fine except for the skinny pants I had to go up a size (to get bigger legs, I guess all those squats, hockey, and skiing make me bottom heavy) and have them take in the waist. For the zip-up soft shell, I wonder when the heck I will ever use that. Not in the flight deck, it's a wind breaker basically. So for that reason I will miss the sweater. I think we'll get used to the hat.

I hope they get enough complaints about the sweater that they add it back in. I know I'll wear the new one a lot but I still like the sweater for the colder days up front. I may almost take some black dye and just dye my current one to match.Dockjock wrote:I liked the new uniform. It's a nice update especially for fit. Wings/tie/hat, all the other stuff; it's all fine. Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
Has anyone else gotten their new uniform? I wanted to hear some opinions on the pants. Does anyone else think they are different fabric? I swear they are different, the ones we tried on were basically stretchy and these have no stretch at all. Mine don't fit, and I have lost weight since the fitting. Curious if anyone else noticed anything.

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
Mine are the same as what I tried on...they still don't fit. The pants are tight around the calf, so when I sit it pulls the pant fight over the knees. The waist was already too big, so I couldn't go up a size. Hopefully with some wear, they will loosen.
At least it may seem they are changing the hat. I hope it will be more in line with the smaller hat of the old uniform.

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?
That's odd because my lower pants are super loose. I guess my thunder thighs just aren't fit for these pants. I may just go buy some black pants from somewhere else.
Re: What do you think of the new uniforms
I'm glad they are going back to the old badges on the hat and getting rid of the writing.
I also said to the fitters that I'd bet in 6 months they'd be offering a low profile hat. I was wrong. It is sooner.
