Oh yah, I forgot about those pressurized tip tanks. Pop and then a streaming spray of Jet A in the face the first time you open a tip tank on an MU-2 and are not prepped for it.

Where I was once a rampie, we had two over wing nozzled so that we could double-hose the MU-2's or any other gravity-fill for that matter.

I loved it when I had a female flight crew needing Jet A, so that I would ask them if then mided if "...we double hosed you so that you can get off faster."

FREAKIN ehmyootooz!!

Japan's little revenge on North America for dropping the nuke...it seems that there's at least one a month plunking out of the sky in the US.

First time I ever fueled one nobody had told me how much the tip tank would drop and I managed to pin my step-ladder under it. Took two other rampies to lift the tank up with their shoulders so that I could pull it out.  :P

Did I mention the nice blast of exhaust on the back of the head you get while disconnecting the GPU on startup?

The spirit of Emperor is apparently alive and well and probably laughing at rampies all over the place!!

We all make mistakes, that is a given. Just remember to keep your head out of your a$$ and treat people like you want to be treated,(you know like mom used to say)and try and see things from all perspectives. We are all necessary pieces of the aviation pie, rampies, CSR's maintenance crew, pilot, or whatever, should show equal respect to one another!

Oh yeah, another one I forgot was the pilot who apparently doesn't even know why you're standing in front waving two red wands around. I've almost been run over on more than one occaision by two pilots in particular. I've managed to beat it into one of their heads what we're there for, but the other guy just doesn't get marshalled any more.

I've yet to be asked for the weather :-) but I have been asked the departure procedures for the airport as the pilot is walking up the steps behind his pax.

Hello. Haven't posted since I left the Industry. But too interesting of a post to give up. Especially after sully's post above. I too tipped a mu-2 wing tip onto the top of the ladder. They are a high maintenance wench when it comes to servicing them. Some other notable ones......My pet peeve was always the conair turbo commanders. I could piss faster than they would take fuel.
bell 414's?? Same story. That last bit........grrrrrr.
AND MY BIGGEST!!!!
some of them king air pilots that flew the garrets........as soon as shut down....POOF....there goes your hat. Sucked in the fresh snow more.

I'm usually pretty good at figuring out what pilots REALLY mean. That post has me a tad confused, even after reading it three or four times. Maybe we should a start "Interpret busted's post" thread?

Yeah I hear a lot of good ones here, coming from the other side of the glass, I am glad I spent a year as a rampy, (well not REALLY glad, but you know) it gave me a appreciation for what line crew has to do/put up with so I would always try and help the guys when I was based in YYZ and in my experience they were all stellar guys to work with I never had a problem with any line crew. I flew with one particular guy who assumed everyone aside from himself was a idiot, ESPECIALLY line crew, the constant stream of crap that came out his mouth as we taxied into any given ramp was interesting, and the disregard for the line crews job he had was also exasperating at times.

Since this happened to me once, I can attest to how crappy it is.

- Leaving fuel in the aux tanks and not telling anyone, when your standard fuel load every morning is full mains (poof jet bath for the poor fuel guy)

After that happened I made sure to leave post it notes on the mains stating "DO NOT FUEL" if we had fuel in the aux tanks :)

(interesting side note, one morning I left the post it notes on the fuel cap as we taxied for departure in yyz, I had a friendly bet with my captain as to whos would fall off sooner, he won, as mine fell off after clearing the runway in YAM an hour later...I got an interesting look from our engeneer in the Sault as he pulled the other off the fuel cap as he greeted our A/C :) )

Having spent a few thousand hours flying an MU-2 there have been more than several occasions where a rampie has placed his ladder directly under the tip tank while fuelling.

It became fun to watch from inside while he tried to figure out how he was going to get the tank off his ladder once he filled it.

If you are trying to portray pilots who haven't worked the ramp as having done stupid things, then you will also need to realize, there are as many ramp guys.

No offence.

My Favorite are the lame "haha so the weather shit eh? im in a warm cockpit all day" jokes when its -eff all outside and my mains have retracted way into the cargo hold.

Dear Pilots (no offense) most of your are genuinely NOT funny
so bugger off and let me work.

Also, lame jokes about my tattoos shall not be tolerated.
it says VERITAS, not VERICOSE wiseass.

Roundengine...
Unfortunately when you shut down a garrett, before Ng reaches 50%, you have to move the power levers intio full reverse in order to ensure that the locking pins preventing the blades from feathering are secured. As well, once the engines are started, you also have to carry out the same procedure to unlock said litttle stupid pins otherwise, you will not reach 100% on T/O. Surely after the 5th time of standing in front of a garrett powered A/C you would have learned!!!

Sadly enough, this thread is a reality check to all of us that we pilots tend to leave our airmanship behind when we close the cockpit door. 4 years as a refueller in the era of the DC3, Convair, Beech Duke and when the Navajo Chieftain was the most popular charter machine made me make a promise to myself: be nice to the line tech!! Cuz I was at the receiving end of some nasty sh$t just like all of you.

We do appreciate those of you who make this a vocation. (At -30º it is a vocation) But one small request; when I'm idling because the FNG wants to finish his solitaire hand on computer before coming out to marshall me, I get a little cranky  And it's not the first time it happened at CYXD. I'm not a big fan of the American culture, but sadly, they have us beat with respect to service.

Just constructive criticism!!

Sorry OT

yodan, next time nobody feels like running out for two minutes to marshall you in, park where ever you feel like it and let them sort out the mess afterwards.

I flew with one guy a few years back, and whenever we came into this one FBO who shall remain nameless, we nearly always end up sitting around for up to 10 minutes after promises that "Someone will be right out." They wouldn't even just tell us where to park just say "He'll be right out." This went on for awhile, so one day the enigmatic guy on the left said to hell with it and parked boxing in two citations and a hawker, set the brake, locked up and left. After that whenever they heard any of our planes coming in there was somebody outside waiting for us.

And to anyone on the ramp, I used to be in your shoes and most of you guys do great work. It sure helps, thanks.
