Hajj contract aircraft are often the "rusty freighters" of the aviation world, and some of the characters that own and operate them are some of them are pretty shady characters. It is advisable to have your money paid in advance or check them out well before you sign on the dotted line.

A number of airlines were looking at restarting service back into Baghdad when this happened:





These guys were very, very lucky. They lost all hydraulics (they did not even have Mechanical backup), and the only way they were able to control the aircraft was by altering engine thrust. Yet they managed to land (they landed, not crashed)!



I watched this story on discovery channel. Awesome documentary!! Amazing what the pilots did to get it landed.
