I couldn't agree with you more oldtimer, which is excatly what the guys did. As for my last quote, I still stick by it. They did NOT RUN OUT OF OIL. They simply started to lose pressure(yes, losing some oil) and then shut it down.oldtimer wrote:Shut it down when oil pressure drops.

Where's my freight?
I worked for them for 18 months. Yeah, I'm grateful that I got my first flying job with them. In exchange I was paid $750/month plus 2% of what the plane made On my busiest month I flew 110 hours and made $200 in mileage. I could tell you stories about them breaking regs but I wouldnt know where to begin, or end for that matter. It was routine. They were quite open about sending you on the next flight south if you complained about duty days or about unsafe equipment.
I will always remember a quote from one of the YBE mechanics "Brakes? You are complaining aobut brakes? Brakes are ****ing luxuries. Just land slow" He was serious.
I hope Transport takes the opportunity to give them a good colonoscopy, cause I know what the result would be.

Wow I am conflicted. here is some facts. The son is at least 10 not that it makes a difference but I can't believe people would wish or say that someone deserves an acident. Picture your self as the brother in question just out haveing fun in the 172 with your son and haveing a momentary lapse of judgement then picture the actual landing in YBE yes he flew to the strip but not only having to answer to transport but to answer to his wife. (a genuinely nice person that does not deserve the respect the brothers have). No matter how much i think the brothers have abused me and my co-workers and from some of your posts i know who you are. They did teach us somethings that make us execell in our current jobs. Would I go back? NO. but would I change the past? that is also a NO. I hope that everyone is ok and that the brother is not delt with too harshly for he is just a pilot with bills to pay too.
Now I agree with poogy abit. where I conflict with him is they did not give us our starts out of the goodness of their hearts and they did take advantage of the situation of having low timers. I also agree with sulko and the pressure to fly when you did not want to but the reality of it is we all did it and caved to the pressure.
I have a small fondness for Northern Dene. For the most part I had a good time working there and met many good friends from both sides of the ramp. Short of a few management rinkles NDA would be a good place to start.
P.S. Jack Daniels Rules

This company sounds like the WORST possible people that could work in Aviation. They are the ones who give this industry a bad name, and create the problems in it today.
It would be a great day for Canadian aviation if every single one of these owner/bastards would load themselves into one of their decrepit beasts and go vertical into some deep lake forever. This will most certainly save the lives of some desperate-for-work young, impressionable pilot chaps, and some gullible, unsuspecting passengers (why yes, ma'am, our planes are the best kept in the north, and why, gosh, young Joe over here was personally trained by ME! Safest fellow you could find!!)

TK, Glad you rethought that part of your post. As you stated, NO ONE deserves to die, and espically lumping BOTH the brothers into one melting pot wasnt fair or even correct. I work very close to the "other brother" on the same field, and see him almost daily. Hes a good man, and tries very hard. I know a few pilots, (one currently in my employ) that truly enjoyed his time in Fond Du Lac with this op. I dont know what goes on up on Athabasca but, I know they try as a company, and one boneheaded move by their CP isnt a reflection on the entire company as a whole. They have some very good talent there. Lets wish them well, instead of hoping for their demise. Isnt the poor guy dealing with enough? Im NOT condoning what he did, not even slightly. It was one of the stupidest things a pilot could do, however, can we all sit here and say we havent done stupid things? With all due respect to my friend Sulako, and his sincere feelings in regards to the ops up north, I still believe the "other" brother truly tries for his employees. I`ll end this by saying, the "other" brother and myself are far from good buds. We conduct business alot, and hes always professional, friendly and approachable, and seems to treat his crew around YPA with respect. Thats half the battle, and the entire ops shouldnt have to take a fall for the mistake of one pilot in their employ (All be it, he was the one to be setting the examples to the younger guys, and failed miserably). Its sad, dangerous and a few other things, but its not worth wishing them outta business or god Forbid, dead. My .02

A copy of the accident report to follow. The muppet actually hit a passenger in the truck. He should have his licence taken away forever.
"A Northern Dene Cessna 172L was being flown at a low level from Fond Du Lac, Sask. to Uranium City, Sask. The aircraft was flown in close proximity to a pickup truck travelling on an ice road approximately 15 miles from Fond du Lac. The starboard main landing gear struck the truck and one passenger riding in the truck bed. injuries to the truck passenger were described as non-life threatening. Reportely the truck cab sustained substantial damage. The main landing gear of the aircraft broke off and was recovered by the other truck occupants. The aircraft continued to Uranium City and sustained substantial damage on landing. RCMP at Fond du Lac have initated an investigation."

Heard the other day that the only reason he is still flying is because Transport does not want to deal with him until the RCMP charges have been dealt with. Sounds like he's in big trouble with the Feds. He tried to say that the plane was not owned by Northern Dene, when in fact it is and does charters for them on a regular basis. Pretty sure he won't be fly when this is all done and said.
As much as the pilot flying the 172 is an idiot, the 172 is not part of NDA fleet.
It was insured as a private aircraft and has only been flown privately by a paster who use's it to go to bible studies. Previously it was but not lately.
Any Norcan metro pilot who reads this and understands "Needs more cowbells" PM me.
Cheers.

Sorry to bring an old topic out of the dust, but I thought some of the people who worked in that company would be interested to read this...
It says the occurence date was April 2004, but this just showed up in the TC file May 2006, so obviously these folks have had to deal with this for quite some time now.

CAR 602.01
60 days licence suspension
An airline transport pilot flying a Cessna 172 flew very low over a truck on an ice road. During the low pass the aircraft’s right landing gear hit the cab of the vehicle causing extensive damage to the truck and the subsequent loss of the landing gear on the aircraft. The RCMP has charged the pilot under the Criminal Code for Dangerous Operation of an aircraft. In addition, his pilot’s licence has been suspended for 60 days for operating an aircraft in a reckless and negligent manner.
