Sorry, didn't bother reading anyones replies...

Just to sum up a tid bit... VFR = No entry into clouds, you break the reg, TC is to tired to regulate, and they'd just rather have you kill yourself...

So, it seems like putting that in the checklist is fair..

Sounds interesting! Care to share the checklist, Cat?

I dont use check lists at all! Oh, sure, the checklist is there. If anything out of the ordinary happens, we back up everything we do with the checklist. But I dont use one day to day. I do a geographical "flow" of everything I need...untill an emergency....then, it's "checklist". Now, I dont condone this for a few years....but you can bet your ass, the guys who put the Air Florida jet into the Potomic River, used a checklist! The guys who ran out of gas over YWG? You can bet they checked the fuel on board as per the checklist! So did every crew in every major airline disaster in history. I know guys who have forgotten the gear....but use a checklist like their very lives depend on it! I guess, it's one way of avoiding poor checklists? And even good checklists are not worth shit, if you dont follow them! And I've yet to have anyone show me a real advantage to reading a checklist. I just kind of look around, and do the "I need this, I dont need that" mental list, then off I go.

Actually Doc, most of the airline checks are a flow system as well. They work real well for someone like yourself who has years of experience flying the same type of aircraft. You certainly cannot expect a flight training facility to use the same method with inexperienced students.

Checklists are the way to go for any training institution, but again they have to be realistic.

For istp :

" Sounds interesting! Care to share the checklist, Cat?

H-- Harness / Hatches /Hydraulics
T-- Trims / Tensions / Temperatures and pressures
M-- Mixtures / Full rich or as required
P-- Props Full fine.
F-- Fuel ? Oo correct selection / pumps as required / Quantity
F-- Flaps as required
G--Gills / Cowl flaps set / Oil coolers set
G-- Gyros / Set and check heading indicators
S-- Switches / as required
C-- Controls free and normal operation ( if you can see the fu.kers )

That is a very old military check list that has become a neumonic that I have found works in every aircraft I have flown.

However in a two crew aircraft we use the airline flow method read and answer check list.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Thanks Cat. I'll have to put that on my fridge and memorize a line a day. Who knows, maybe I'll get in a plane again and try it out one day too. :D
