Where is Canada airline bailout? The deal was supposed to be ‘imminent’ — so why are we still waiting?

Canadians I watched and listened to were all so full of themselves over the past year as they tsk tsk'd our brothers to the south.
Liberals, maybe don't read on or your head may explode... but they're doing this well because of the policies instituted by the previous administration and Operation Warp Speed, and they did it while maintaining their freedom and rights, well maybe except in California.
Now take a look... Canada is the pariah. Bottom of G7 on every metric. Behind most of the world on vaccinations. We'll be lucky if we don't end up on all our allies' red lists, and if we don't it's probably more out of a sense of history and common past than anything... they'll be feeling sorry for us.

Australia and NZ are opening up quarantine free travel between the countries. Bubbles are appearing at Canada will likely never be part of any of them.

Those are some pretty sobering numbers.sanjet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 12:53 pm American CDC telling Americans to avoid travel to canada even IF VACCINATED. As opposed to what’s being spewed on CBC, you now have a statistically higher chance of catching COVID in Canada than USA.
Today:
1 daily case per 8024 people in USA
1 daily case per 5828 people in canada
People are literally getting ill because of this governments mismanagement. Let’s stop pretending we’re better than everyone else.
Before the apologists tell me about getting vaccines late, do some research on Trudeaus decision on signing a deal with Sinovac first when he should have signed with a reputable pharmaceutical company first. All this while we already had bad relations with sinovac’s host country.
This mismanagement is getting criminal, this bailout issue is just a microcosm of the situation. The government literally has no idea of what’s going on, the bailout as we think is not coming. It will be loans with massive green energy requirements. Congrats to Ontario on another lockdown by the way.

Just in relation to total population you are about four times as likely to die of COVID-19 in the USA vs Canada.
If those are indeed equally representative case numbers (doubtful) then it’s more like 6 or 7 times more likely to die of COVID-19 if you get infected in the USA vs Canada.
I’ll take a better overall healthcare system with better outcomes over that. The US definitely needs those vaccines more than we do.

Better healthcare system?
For who? People that wouldn't otherwise have insurance?
I'd take US healthcare with insurance every time over the public mess we have.
US tax structure and pay my way for my family medical plan and I'd still be ahead and be able to get in to see someone and get treated immediately when needed.
Canada? You die waiting to see a specialist.

Meanwhile in the US - "no later than April 19th, in every part of this country, every adult over the age of 18 — 18 or older — will be eligible to be vaccinated. No more confusing rules. No more confusing restrictions."

We are now 54th in the world with roughly 8% of our population vaccinated. I think they are still doing age 65 and up in most parts of the country.

Google “number of ICU beds in Canada vs USA and tell me where you’d prefer to be. The US has double to triple what Canada has per capita.

Yet another way Canada managed to screw their own airlines and divert business to US airlines. It’s almost laughable at this point.

Let me say the vast, vast majority of the population have zero tolerance and less than zero sympathy for the plight of the “snow birds”. It is one big collective f@ck them and their cars, pickups,RVs they rode in and out of. I have never witnessed such distain for a specific segment of the population this past year and I am of that age group. I sit with the “ vast, vast majority “.Stinky wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 4:26 am Yet another way Canada managed to screw their own airlines and divert business to US airlines. That’s a sentiment I can’t understand. They’re not suffering through a cold dark winter. It’s better for their immune system and mental health. They can easily travel there and back safely. Seems like a great idea.Old fella wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 9:45 amLet me say the vast, vast majority of the population have zero tolerance and less than zero sympathy for the plight of the “snow birds”. The negative attitude towards snowbirds sounds like nothing more than jealousy.

What's the issue with the snowbirds? I don't blame them from doing what they're doing, pandemic or not.Old fella wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 9:45 amLet me say the vast, vast majority of the population have zero tolerance and less than zero sympathy for the plight of the “snow birds”. The ideal people in the US aspire to achieve. - "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"
The ideal people in Canada aspire to achieve. - "You better not have anything nicer than me or else you owe me."

Well that's wrong for a start: in Canada it is really: "it must be better somewhere else, because here seems like too much work".

What annoyed the many of us SENIORS about our snow bird brethren is their fucking sense of entitlement upon returning after been strongly advise not to go outside the country. It was like “ how dare you to tell me I have to isolate at my expense”. That pissed off the population writ large, pure and simple. Anyway I am done on this topic

That's fair. No one likes people coming off as entitled.Old fella wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 2:03 pm What annoyed the many of us SENIORS about our snow bird brethren is their fucking sense of entitlement upon returning after been strongly advise not to go outside the country. As for the travel restrictions... they would have been useful a year ago. Today, it's just another way of posturing and virtue signalling by the government. Coronavirus Theatre at best. If the rules were consistently applied and made sense then people would obey them. But since they are reactionary showpieces no one can take any of it seriously.
As for the subject of the thread... https://youtu.be/uZv8eua4n3s?t=9
