well I'm not sure about CASM but lets think about it....I know we are in total opposite sides of the size scale but we will use ratios for sake of discussion. This is all guess work here by the way I have no numbers to go on I'm just using logic here.

-The aircraft leases on the -500's are cheaper than the -700's

-CJ only has full time maintenance at 2 bases and one hangar (big cost savings with maybe a hit on the on time performance)

-employees are paid less at CJ

-aircraft mods. winglets, IFE, less seating (seats taken out of the -700) for more leg room

-IMP- Sheetmetal, NDT, manufacturing, groundequipment/support, Hangars.

*now I'm not saying we make more money than WestJet but I do believe we can operate at a lower cost/aircraft

This is taken from another forum:

Last year's mainline casm was 10.4 cents ex fuel, ex interest, over 1,300 miles. WS was 7.4 cents over 797 miles. Over 1,300 miles, WJ's casm will be closer to 5.8 cents. There's that pesky 45% cost advantage WJ's had on ACE since 1996. It doesn't seem to be going away, does it?

Then there's Jazz at 17.8 cents over 380 miles vs WJ at 10.4 cents over 797 miles. That puts Jazz at about 14 cents over 797 miles. Oops. There's that 40%+ advantage again

What's Canjet's average stage length and daily aircraft utilization rate?

I'm not saying that Canjet doesn't have a CASM advantage over Westjet because it is a private company and I just don't know... but I have a hard time believing that it does when, if you look at the routes it flies, there isn't much long-haul flights (to increase stage length and therefore decrease CASM).

Good luck trying to figure it out. CJ is a private company, and unless Rowe feels like bragging about a lower CASM(which i doubt it is) you guys are only guessing. We can only speculate, just as we speculated that Jetsgo's CASM was no where near the money they brought in, which ended up being right. Never did get any hard numbers on Leblanc's operation either, if I remember correctly.

since we are a private company even if I had any numbers to go on....I'd risk my job posting them.
