Just Courious :
I have to many people wanting me to teach them how to fly the f.ckin PBY's that I can't apply anyhow....
However what you could do is hire some of my offspring they should have kids of their own by now.
It would be easy to determine if they really are mine because like huntin dogs they would just naturally be awsome airplane drivers just from instinct.
Hell there is the answer to your crewing issues....

As it happens, the pool table in the YSY weather station is gone. But if you had more recent otter time (none of them are made of wood these days
) then you, and perhaps a half dozen friends might be going to a place that has 45 different ways to say snow, but only one common way to whine about it. Might be a nice time to meet your kids!
We might take you anyway just to get that PBY5A off the lakeshore.
As with most other rumours, this one may not have any bearing in fact, but it may be a busier summer than previous years.

Implicit here seems to be the idea that you have to be some idea of a "golden arm" test pilot to fly a twotter.
I might be wrong, but a twotter sure looks like a slow, gentle old cow of an airplane from here. Landing a twotter is probably a little bit easier than a night carrier landing in an F-4, ya think?

While yes, it may appear to be an old gentle cow, and often is; fill the cow with milk, put'er on skates and have her run at a 50 foot high fence 600 feet away, and see how she leaps.
To be fair, there isn't a lot of tough systems in the machine, and face it, most new FO's are not going to be doing the off-strip/ rough water/ hard sastrugi takeoffs or landings.
Our main issue when hiring newer drivers is that they do not often understand that they will be doing all of this often in the same month, over 3 time zones.
Generally, we find it easier to pay a bit more and steal people who have some related experience.

I believe what Just Courious is trying to explain is it is more the enviorement in which the Twin Otters are flown than it is how hard the airplane is to fly.

Although its been a while since I've been babysat by the ole DHC-6, the memories are pleasant, and as so often happens with age, most of the bad ones have been erased. As JC said, the twotter is a docile, forgiving old girl, which never ceases to amaze. Also, as is typical of a dehav bush plane is bullet proof. Many a -50 morning the otter has fired up without complaint, with only having been plugged in, tented, and the battery lying next to my sleeping bag. Only to go out careening over rock hard drifts, with way to much drill gear in the back. Some mornings it hurts to bend over to tie up the shoes, twin otter back never seems to go away, does it JC. While the twotter is slow and easy to fly, its what otter-skinners do with it that is challenging. And as with life, so often experience comes with making mistakes. Landing on tundra that looked firm from the air, then sinking up to the belly makes for a long day. Sitting at the end of that 600 ft. esker, looking back at your load, no scales here, the geologist said each sample bag weighed only 50 lbs., but man some sure felt heavier than that, oh well, she'll go, lotsa room. The experienced driver is valuable, especially with time in all configs, and they are becoming scarcer in supply, as most have moved on, and from what I've seen, most young pilots are not interested in careers solely in the bush. A shame, because the people you meet, and the remote parts of the world you will see, truly make the job enrichening.

However, after my recent visit to HQ, we are short of Captains on the Float side of things, and the Beechcraft side of things. So...
If you have an ATPL & are current, or recent on BE10, 20, 90, or 99, or have recently held an otter PPC with 500 of it on floats, and 1000 tt floats, this might be an opportune time. We are out of promotable co-pilots, so that is why we are looking. We have a couple coming up on time in a couple months, but not right now.
Read the various threads, good and bad. Nothing's ever perfect, but I happen to like the place. AFTER that, if yer interested, PM me with specific questions.

Does Borek offer fill-in-the-blank contracts for positions for the season? or is it all full-time permanent? What I'm getting at is , do they hire seasonal capts for , say, the Canadian winter in the Maldives? I know of a bunch that go down for TMA... not sure if Borek ever did or still does that?

Just curious,
Does Kenn Borek Air know you are claiming to represent the company and are painting it up as an arrogant shithole of a place in which people good enough to express an interest in working there are treated the way you say they are.
As for that other guy who says "I've always wanted to work at Kenn Borek", I can only ask why. Can you not set your sites higher than your shoelaces. I've never wanted to work there and I wasn't even aware of the crap Just Curious just treated us to above.

Ogee, settle down. I think we all understand that KB is not for everybody. As for me, I could work there, on the TO's that is. Where else can you work where they let you land on 400 feet of Terra Firma out in the middle of the Devils' playground with only your wits to guide you? It ain't a comfortable job, never has been. But I tried something similar once and I can tell you all the BS is worth it-for ME. Your mileage may vary. I would rather put a bullet in my head than work for AC, WJ ,JAZZ,...etc. but I don't go around telling guys that want to do that kind of thing that they are wrong.
