Ah YPL, I remember the time when.......Oh wait, I'm still f@$%%ng here.
heading north, don't worry about shirtless volleyball on the beach with the MNR boys, that would be for queers. And condoms? Unless one of your four roomies is gonna jack you off, you should just keep it in your pants. But better safe than sorry I guess.

Spent two years there flying .CYPL itself sucks but the people really make it work. Learn to drink, and like Junior said bring a spinning rod or an Xbox, take a senic drive to the dump to check out the bears , You can sit out side the northern store on welfare day and watch the fights (Bring bevaragesand chips for the intermission)or put the shotgun in the truck and drive to YXL. A pleasent drive through OZ, but a word of advice , I personally would not stop there to ask for directions even if they still put paint in the pot holes. All in All a good time ,and you will love the flying and the crowd Who work with the airlines there.

Cheers,

Flaps

My vote is for altered...you can see the reflection of the Sioux Lookout sign in the drivers side passenger glass and the highway is much to wide to be the 599.

Ohhhh, boy... Snow Goose = Arctic Parka. Useful in winter, as palm trees are a rarity in PL...
Herc Strap - useful to hold down cargo
Wobble Pump - hand pump for fuelling a/c out of drums

lots more, I'm sure..

Snow Goose is now Canada Goose very high quality. Columbia is worthless crap compared to C.G. No offence to your jacket but its like comparing this:

to this

CG comes with a lifetime warranty and is genuinly the best thing you can get. I suggest a Resolute if you concider one but the Expedition and Heli Arctic would be good choices too.

I am about as close to a "local" as you're going to find when it comes to YPL. I lived there on & off all my life. I was actually born in Pickle Crow waaaay back. The town originally started as a mining town and gradually became the jumping-off point for the fly-in communities north of here. Those of you that know me will say I'm prejudiced. I worked for Wasaya for lots of years and knew the North Star crew. As for what to bring the list has to include warm clothing - no matter what time of year you're going, bug spray - Deep Woods Off is the best, sunscreen if you'll be there for the summer, I've gotten some nasty sunburns over the years.

As far as what to expect, you'll get out of it what you put into it. If you go there expecting a city you'll be miseraable the whole time. Get to know the people you work with and get out and get involved in the community. There is bowling and curling in the winter months. Used to be a mixed slo-pitch league in the summer months, check the bulletin boards for sign-up sheets.

The real sign says population 390. YPL is also in the middle of nowhere. Closest town is Sioux Lookout which is a 3 hr drive away if you can manage to do 100km/h on the 599.
