I don't agree with the US being in Iraq, but I sure as hell don't have any trouble with the soldiers (and marines... don't wanna piss of Nark.) over there doing what they have to to save their own asses. Armies don't decide when to invade, politicians do. Armies just have to deal with it.
Yea, I bet there were multiple fatalities from extremely minor whiplash.bob sacamano wrote:so basically, they invade a country, kill whoever that's on the way, armed or not, as long as they can get back alive to their country.
Hmmmmm, u.s. of a. the land of the brave.
What is the point of this thread?
Pelosi says that troops are from now on going to be properly trained, equipped and furloughed - as opposed to the extended tours and poor equipment that has saved some $ in the Iraq faisco. That should throw a wrench into bush's psychotic future war plans. I believe congress will also be requiring a declaration of war from bush in order for bush to start overt aggressions against Iran. Nonetheless, if another attack on the order of 911 is carried out, and the fingers will point at Iran (this time you can bet the accused will be Iran, not Syria, not Lebanon, not N. Korea - not Hussein or Iraq - who categorically had zero involvement in 911 or wmd production following 10 yrs of sanctions which crippled any ability he may have had for this), one could reasonably expect congressional approval for more war of empire in the middle east, will be a rubber stamp process.
The video originally posted by bob can be explained and excused away. The video altiplano posted, where they hit a truck on an open road and laugh uproarously, and the vid posted by megaton where they use firepower against the villain sheep - cannot be explained and excused away. It is one thing to protect yourself, another to attack innocent bistanders (or sheep - someone's livelihood let us remember). It is power that corrupts what little moral fibre these examples may ever have had.

I don't think anyone should hate americans.
But do hate the evildoes who run their country. An ex oil company VP runs the country so they invade countries that have oil. Get it?
And these evildoers have WMD and use them! We are doomed if these hardline extremists continue on their course.
Don;t give up. Ordinary people helped to stop the bloodbath in Vietnam. People are already tried of losnig their kids to fight for Israel's wars.

The US has always been able to force its will on the rest of the world. That is the main cause of worldwide dislike. The other factors as mentioned by STL are certainly not endearing qualities either.
Times are changing though and the US will be the whipping boy to China. Before long and they will have to learn to live and act in a manner that is acceptable to the rest of the world.
Much the our own Politics in Canada has been. The East has the balance of power. The West has been excluded. Ergo, the West dislikes the East.

WTF are you on about?
gr8gazu -------"No" the US hasn't always been able to force its will on the rest of the world. What history books have you been reading from? Sorry to let you know that the world didn't start just 80-90 years ago.
Up until WW1 it was the British Empire that was the supposed "bad ass" of the world and they stuck their noses into everything and protected those that they chose. Think this statement is bunch of crap?...........then you got a bunch of reading to do and a real, real, steep learning curve. While you're at it, also learn what country was the "bad ass" before the Brits because there has ALWAYS been one. Lastly, take the time to learn your own Canadian history. We have people on this continent and two nations as a result because of ongoing and centuries-long wars between the two great powers of the day......England and France.
Your opinion and mine concerning the US is just that.......our opinions. The above is not.......it's a matter of recorded historical fact.

Actually... The US has an economy built on war. It needs war to thrive. Do I hate the US? HELL NO, because without the US Canada would not be where it is today. Why the rest of the world hates the US though I can understand. The US has ALWAYS been at war with somebody ever since it declared it's independence.
U.S. military spending ($343 billion in the year 2000) is 69 percent greater than that of the next five highest nations combined. Russia, which has the second largest military budget, spends less than one-sixth what the United States does. Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Cuba, Sudan, Iran, and Syria spend $14.4 billion combined; Interestingly enough, Iran accounts for 52 percent of this total. (numbers are from 2000).
However to think that the other colonial forces like Britain, France and Spain even come close to the US in the last century is wrong. Here is a list of US interventions in the world, and to be honest, most of them I had not heard of, and when I made this research I did not even realize how large this list was.

When I speak of Americans and why we "hate them" as the thread is titled, I do not refer to history beyond those that are alive today. If we hate for for events that took place before that, we are indeed a demented nation.
My comment is based on "common current sentiment" not on events that took place before the Dominion was formed. Did I even mention or make reference to the founding nations of Canada or the Western world? What the @#$! are you on or on about? Grow up or know when to say "when".
Nothing in my post shows any relevence to my education or knowledge of history. As an avid reader or "student" of history, I would be happy to discuss events with you in a rational manner but certainly not due to a misguided barley juice induced (an assumption) post like you have placed. That being said, for you to "assume" has only made an ass of "U" my friend. Close ties to the US???

The unions really love the Americans. A big company with many plants running at, say, 80% will buy up a Canadian firm and then give the ultimatum. Concessions or we'll shut you down and pick up the slack with our other mills.
They're tough and rich and have ten times our population.
The reason the US can do what they like is that basic infrastructure and living standards demand so much, after that the rest is gravy.
The gravy can be used to shoot men into space, built big ships, and lots of planes and pay the people to man them.
Canada doesn't have as much gravy and never will. Too much land and not enough people.
Might as well get used to it.
Kyoto will suck up some more of the gravy. Guess we'll have to take a back seat to the US, China, India, Norway, Germany, France, but at least not to Andorra. Glad that Mexico is on the other side of the US, or they might invade us.
