5000TT to fly a 208????
Are the insurance requirements really that high? :roll:

Who said it was the insurance company's requirement? I get CV's everyday from the most experienced float drivers in the world, guys with 10-20,000 hours with 5-15,000 on water, why would we want to hire any less experienced people when I know the cream of the crop will be interested?

Why would you be advertizing for pilots then? You looking for better than "The cream of the crop?

The job ad reads for a September start. We are going through the process now and have made contact with some very suitable guys.

Just for interest's sake, I went through the last 8 CV's I received and looked at the qualifications.
Total Time 91,000 Hours
Float Time 54,000 Hours

4 Guys on staff now:
Total Time 56,000 Hours
Float Time 44,000 Hours

Sorry if our requirements offend some of you, and sheer volume of hours is certainly not the only criteria, and yes, it's only a Caravan but there are career float pilots out there who will get the choice jobs, and some consider this a choice job.

I was being sarcastic since the insurance co's are asking for a lot of time on type but not 5000 hours worth!

Good on you mate, if you can find those high time guys then great.
What I do know is that the big operators in Canada are almost fighting for DHC3/208/DHC6 drivers at the moment. The minimums are a joke now that the older bushrats are calling it quits and I'm starting to see young guys getting on 208's with 1500 TT...

If you dont mind my asking....
The guys who have sent you cv's: how old are they on average?
Are they mostly life long bushrats or guys who flew a few float seasons back in the day then progressed to the airlines, got divorced are now broke, homeless...???

Twotterflogger (Is just jealous, and would rather be flying floats in asia then wheels in Africa)

No problem... For the most part, they are guys who have been around the game of float flying most of their careers and are looking for a change of scenery, being sucessful in their endeavors in Canada but are tired of the shitty winters there. Average age would probably be in the 45-55 range.
The ones who flew a Beaver back in 72' and have been driving something that takes fuel by the tonne ever since are not really our 'target market', although I have gotten several of those as of late.

I look at every CV seriously and appreciate anyone who takes the time to put one together.

I believe that whoever winds up here will forget all about those days spent hauling carcases (both live and dead) around BF-Wherever and will really enjoy being a pilot again, flying nice equiptment, in gorgeous territory with the added benefits that come with being in Phuket, which are numerous and varied in themselves.

If you dont mind my asking....
The guys who have sent you cv's: how old are they on average?
I'm one of the guys who was wondering if they would be interested in a part timer on the Amphib. Van.

Problem was I'm a little to old to fly the airplane commercially as the country has an age limit, I got my float rating in 1954 and did my last sea plane flying in 2006.....I'll be 72 in October. Looking at all the pussy over there and having a low sex drive I thought it would be a good place to spend some time.....my low sex drive is way down in my dick and not up in my head. :smt026

This is the kind of "cream of the crop" that I was referring to, guys who have been there and done everything. Regretably, I had to write to . to let him know of the age restriction imposed by the DCA here, otherwise we would be getting him measured up for white shirt and shorts, an oversized "Little Black Book" and several hundred condems (Viagara is not covered in company health plan)

I only hope that someday i can make that kind of connection is this great industry. Right now i am in the middle of the sahara in a van ... and getting back on floats looks pretty good right now. (I know I know the Sahara in the summer ... I also drilled in the artic in the winter so we all know how SMRT i am.) Good luck getting the ppl you need .. if you can steal a few from the twotter operators. That is my next step (fingers crossed) and would love to see some openings there.
