Companies NEEDING drivers...

Since I got back here a couple of months ago I've been told about this hiring boom... I don't see it.
One airline I know locally was interested but had filled its hiring requirements soon after I got back.
I didn't bother too much because I was told this operator wanted me to have an ATPL.
So I'll do the course and write the exam.
But I must admit to a certain inertia on my part... I have been around a long time and have seen the horror of the Canadian small airline.
The low pay, the poor maintenance, and the bad attitude of some of the people.
Soon after I obtained my Canadian CPL Multi IR I learned that flying a small commuter aircraft was a job for kids and not for people with a lot of experience and maturity.
Kids can live at home, whereas a mature person has to pay rent and feed him/herself.
I could earn more money teaching people to fly in Cessna 152's than what many of the people I knew who flew Navajos got.
They got to worry about flying unserviceable equipment in BC's winter icing and relying on their luck to survive.
IMHO if these operators charged another $25 on a ticket, they would have been able to pay for better maintenance, and been able to keep their crews happy.
A happy crew is one that is not dividing its attention between its debts and worries and flying the aeroplane.
I am sure most customers would be happy to pay extra to fly in an aeroplane that did not look like it had been through the war, with a crew that perhaps looks ready to commit suicide!
I went to North Vancouver Airlines many years ago... $6,000 to PPC on their aircraft and then they would pay me $12 an hour to fly them.
I love to fly, but I need to eat, clothe, and keep a roof over my head. There's no mummy and daddy to look after me.
When I arrived in Canada from Britain I was stunned by the way Canadians treat each other. From the employers even to the highly critical ATC controllers of that time.
I hope things are getting better and that people start to treat each other with a little more respect.
A CPL is now a much more difficult licence to get than it was 15 years ago when I did it. Respect it!
I am sure things have changed somewhat, but like was said above a Leopard does not change its spots.

Hey, this guy sounds like me.Doc wrote: if you're an older guy with the right numbers, you should be knocking on some doors. By the right numbers, I mean around 7-10K, (and over 45) so they can just leave you "out there"....toss a 250 hour guy with you, and never have to worry.
A friend told me about this thread. Does anyone have any REAL leads on operators looking for that "older guy with the right number?" Or, do they all want disposable 1000 hr wonders at $25k a copy? My situation is: working about 4 months a year for a great company, good money; need something to do with the other 8 months of the year (YVR please). It would be great if someone could make use of my experience ie(heavy/medium/multi/turbine/jet/global/command)
If anyone has any leads, send me a PM

I appologize for repeating info already covered...
Lately it seems like people don't want to " go north" these days. I've talked to two operators who seemed on the ball (eg, good MTCE etc.) who were looking for 500TT + and can't fill the seat! (eg. Super Cub, C206, C207, C185, DHC2) Apparently nobody with 500TT + wants a piston single job?!!?? Is this a widespread problem up North at the moment or just an isolated case.
If so, I don't get it! And Hi 5! I'm gonna try and pick up some of that work!

pilots are like a bunch of crabs in a frying pan.... one tries to get out, and all the others pull him back in! " I had to work the ramp for 2 years.... so you should too!" "I never made that much, so you shouldn't either!" "It took me this long to upgrade, so you shouldn't get it sooner"
I could go on and on about the egos and attitudes I have run into, pilots just won't support eachother. One stands up to management and the rest can't get the shit off their noses....
as a group we eat our young, and allow companies to walk all over us!

Gotta love Pasco (I'm guessing).. Great job while it's happening but being laid off sucks.. That being said, I'll bet you that things will change sooner than later there. If they are getting more Saabs like I hear, I'm sure they will start more year round routes.
BTW, got any float time? PM me if you do..
If anyone has any leads, send me a PM
Nope, I don't work for Pasco. And I don't get laid off, I like to call it "semi-retirement". I don't have float time, but thanks for the response twottertwotter wrote:

Must be a Conair employee.
There are tons of jobs out there for small and medium outfits. Less for corporate and airline, but then they don't advertise usually. Just look at this site's job section - Jetstreams in McMurray for a 3000 hour guy, etc.
