Re: Leaving for the Ice...
Well, it's happening again. Back to sleep for me, then tonight, I'm taking this season's ride from the Arctic down to Calgary, where it is going to be swarmed by cleaners, painters, maintainers, something like an Indy Pit Crew.As many of you may know, it is pretty much winter in the Arctic now. A delightful mixture of cold, dark, and windy.
So, I am going, like so many old people, south for the winter. Naturally, being a type A personality, I'm going all the way south.
So, no moderating, or snide advice (which will delight many of you, I'm sure), I'm off to go fly. A lot.
Some sage elder in the far east once said the the longest journey begins with that first, small step. Bullsh*t! It begins with an enormous stack of paperwork. Ferry permits, overflight permits, certificates of qualification, authorization to export technology, re-weights, amended Wt &Bals... fortunately, all I had to do was show up, throw my junk in the plane, and go. Or so I thought...
In any event, we are enroute. I say "we" with some conviction, since the prep work by engineers, and admin staff to garner the 300,000 permissions and approvals is mind-boggling. But they did, and we are underway.
Fortunately, the petty details like my training, ride, dental work, oh, and finding my luggagefilled the time between rolling into the big city, and launching at an obscenely early time.
My paperwork for the voyage will be heightened by that pesky AEPIS paperwork, and an airframe change, but it's mostly done. Permissions, route planning and binder, a zillion general declarations, GPS route creation, snacks for three for a week, thermoses and a secure place for the cups... well, I have the thermos anyway.
It's winter here. Over a week, we'll have fall, summer, spring, and winter again.

Take my love
Take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care
I'm still free
You cannot take the sky from me

Safe Journey JC!
Please keep posting pics! Is there anywhere else I can see some like a flikr account or something?

This is by far one of the most interesting trip report that we can read on this forum!
I would definitely love to experience such a journey and work in the locations that Borek fly to.
