I am looking for long term employees; not ones that call me 1 week after we upgraded them to Captain on the King Air to say they now have 1500 hours and Jazz called.
Just curious bobm ... is there a reason that you can't keep your new Capt's for more than a week?? Do you think there is something more/different the company could do to keep your junior captains. Your opinion just seems a little one sided and suspect if you ask me.Tier Two First Officer: greater than 1500 TT and 500 MPIC
all aircraft types: $30,000/annum base plus mileage
Captains – All Aircraft: Year #1 $30,000.00 / annum base plus 0.10/ mile
Guess its professional to take cheap shots at them on the internet these days anyways.

The content of your post is not necessarily wrong but I sense that the spirit behind it is a little abrasive.
I only had a telephone interview with this Chief Pilot last summer. Therefore I don't personally know him. However, he has a job to do just like the rest of us. He needs to keep his company viable, safe and profitable.
It must be distressing trying to keep Captains on a Caravan when everyone is searching to fly jets. Everyone on this forum knows full well that no amount of money is going to keep someone on a Caravan forever. Most career minded individuals take pay cuts to jump from turboprops to jets.
Companies realize this. They understand that people want to progress but at the same time they are looking for some stability. There's nothing wrong with that.

NM .. the intent was not to be abrasive, rather constructive. Sorry if it comes across that way. Just seems odd that a company would decide to berate its current employees and pay "qualified" people over twice the annual salary of those employees who, god forbid, find a job that has decent working conditions and better pay, And then complain about them leaving. Also the people he was talking about were the King Air capt's. Usually the "Van" guys move up and onto the king air. I do not disagree with wanting to bring in the type of people who want to stay at the company. But it just seems silly to keep doing the same old things and then get mad when you get the same results. AKA, people staying "one week" after getting their left seat PPC, not to mention the "experienced" ones who are on contract and quit anyways, which if I'm not mistaken was failed to be mentioned.

First off, I'm not sure what your first part is even talking about, how is he berating anyone.Jimmy Hoffa wrote: Just seems odd that a company would decide to berate its current employees and pay "qualified" people over twice the annual salary of those employees who, god forbid, find a job that has decent working conditions and better pay,

He is not complaining what so ever, The fact that he wants people that will stick around is well, what every CP wants. The fact that he mentioned the King Air is because if you are on the Caravan you cross train on the King Air. It has happened numerous times this year alone as well, guys get the PPC and than there gone.
Now which experienced guys do you know that lasted a week and left. With that comment you must be in the know at thunder, perhaps a current employee, or maybe one of the disgruntled ones that was let go.
Regardless, I was at Thunder for quite awhile and was treated extremely well. I was never pushed to fly if I didn't feel comfortable, Maintenance was second to none. Now albeit i was on the MU-2 so I don't know how the Caravan is but from my experience who ever gets this job is going to enjoy it.
Well other than the 8 Kashechewan runs a day.

Sorry "floatbabe" if that really is your name. I had to nix your pix! Personally, they're great photos, just they can't be shown on this web site.

Re: Thunder's new Caravan ad
The majority of us would definitely leave a Caravan job after a year or so to go somewhere else to fly jets if given the chance. This is true even if someone was paid $100,000/year for that Cessna job. Yes, I know that flying jets initially is very low paying. However, often the dream of flying heavy iron is the most sought after currency and not money when building a career.Doc wrote:Never Mind stated.."No amount of money could keep someone on a Caravan forever..."
