And the STO busses cross into Ottawa from Hull. As far as I know, there's no requirement for their drivers to be bilingual, though most probably are.

I was trying not to post here as it is a very emotional issue for me but...

In France..stop signs say STOP. It was only when the mayor of St Hychinthe refused to put up "arret' signs that the tide started to turn...not an English community did a damn thing about it. And other than bleating here, who is going to do something about it?

We, as English speaking canadians are unable to get many many imports because the cost of putting them in both French and English does not justify the expense...and the French, BTW has to be in bigger letters than the English...that is a Quebec law, but if your printing labels for all of Canada.

The fact is it is causing the taxpayers billions of dollars a year ...thats money out of all our pockets to prepetuate this farce....and it will continue until the English politicans get the balls to stand up to Quebec...which...because of their political influence, I doubt will ever happen.

And how does it apply to aviaition in other ways? Well, if you are a French Canadian pilot who speaks English well, you will have a hard time getting a job in Quebec. Quebec aviation jobs are saved for those who speak only French...if you speak English you are told to go get a job in "English" Canada....and then, of course, demand French services, Education, ...

I had better quit now.

What was that famous skirmish in Quebec city was it , where the English Whopped the French's ASS ,? At THAT time , they should have been sent packing, has been a thorn in Canada,s side ever since !

The guy's back in the news, just won a $12,000 judgment from Air Canada for basically the same thing: not greeting him in French, and committing the unforgivable sin of serving him with Sprite instead of 7-Up.

Michel Thibodeau can take his 7-up and shove it up his ass. He's nothing but an anglophobic bigot who would abolish the english language if he had the chance. He calls himself an activist but a true activist fights for equality, not trying to put one demographic above another. I'm all for equality in the fact that Canada should provide services in English OR French, not English and French. If you want bilingualism, learn the second language.

The guy does have a point, and after nine years hes collected (or rather has been awarded, who knows when/of he ever will collect) a whopping 12 grand. The canadian judicial system found Air Canada was violating the law, and an agreement they stipulated to during deregulation.

So If Air Canada had a flight from Winnipeg to Calgary and the cabin crew only spoke french that would be fine?

Then that would be my fault for not learning french.

If you're pissed off because you cant understand either of our official languages, then you damn well better learn the one you don't understand. It's this guys fault for hating and\or not understanding English, not Air Canada's and they shouldn't have been held liable.

Well the court said it was air canada's fault, regardless of thibodeaus motivation, which I speculate is not to be malicious. The court also found air canada was not malicious or negligent and recognised they were making an effort to recitfy the problems but there still was a deficiency. Based on that they didnt award any punititive damages. seems fair enough, and the media shouldnt be playing it as "man gets awarded 12 000 for not getting a sprite", somethings wrong with their english comprehension if thats what they understood from it.

I'm cool with the crew only speaking Russian, as long as the cabin staff is HOT! Tired of Air Canada's "stews" collecting OAS and still serving drinks on most of their flights....in ANY language!

For your viewing pleasure:

But if theyre giving you instructions to evacuate in an emergency, most passengers would prefer English I would think.
