those leatherman's are junk IMHO. get yourself something similar from victorianox, farrrr better quality.

i skimmed the list so far and i didn't see drive adapters. ie 3/8 to 1/4, 1/4 to 3/8, etc etc etc. i have a whole pile of them. also i would suggest flex sockets in 1/4" drive, a good mirror, and a rechargeable flashlight....one that uses the same batteries as your cordless drill. and lots of different length extensions, i suggest snap-on wobble extensions, they're the only ones i even use any more.

I hope this is a joke...all the Leatherman's I've owned in all of my years have never let me down, excellent quality, 25 year warranty, how can you go wrong.

I'm still using the Leathermen I bought 17 years ago.
The Victorianox I bought four years ago broke and couldn't
get it replaced. Something about it not being meant to be a
hammer I think was the reason. I've used my leatherman as
a hammer and it still works!

Hammers. A good mechanic has to have hammers.

Most things can be fixed with hammers.

One way or another

Hammers are for carpenters.

AME's require calibrated tap-o-meters

I've talked to some guys at the workplace, they say a good deadblow and brass mallet are good to have.

I would hold off buying tools until you figure out where you are going to work. You could end up working on a swing wing, and need to buy a whole wack of metric stuff.

A good rule of thumb I like to tell apprentices is, if you borrow something more than once, buy it.

I do however recommend a Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver...

I know this has been mentioned but since I have started as a new apprentice and mostly held off on buying tools til I get a feel for what I need(except for the obvious basics). When asked the most common answer from engineers is the Plier Wrench from Knipex.
http://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=65&L=1&L=1

and from my short experience also
cordless drill,a nice mix of lightweight and power, definately with torque settings
a really good easy-out combo, drill bit on one end left hand thread on the other, for stripped fasteners
anything wobble is good to have in your box
headlamp

just a cpl more items for ya...
