Re: FAA to TC conversion

Post by UNDPilot »

If anyone needs a CFII I am around the Winnipeg Area. I am qualified to work in Canada so let me know. Also if anyone knows a quick and cheap way to get a Transport Canada Flight Instructor conversion from FAA I would be much obliged.

a Transport Canada Flight Instructor conversion from FAA (CFI)
You need to carefully read CAR 421.70(1) and (2):

Timeframe:
- Applied early April, had to shake up the bureaucracy at TC Moncton 5 weeks later...
- The FAA responded to TC's verification request of my US ratings within 12 hours (TC take example!)
- Passed the written conversion exam early June.
- TC lost the copy of my logbook... had to drive 8 hours to produce it again.
- Still waiting for TC to do it's job and issue the certificate! (I am elevating this issue with Manzar Huq - Director of Civil Aviation in Ottawa and filing a Civil Aviation Issues Reporting System (CAIRS) report online.

The Test (private pilot in my case):
- You DO NEED to study. Your US knowledge is not sufficient to pass.
- You DO NOT need to buy any books. Just use the online CARs on TC's website. The list of CARs to study (paragraph numbers) are shown on the FAA conversion page on TC's website.

Recommendation:
- if TC takes more than 90 days to complete your conversion: COMPLAIN! We pay enough tax (and fees!) in this country to deserve a minimum standard of service.
- read and print TC's staff instruction: http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/imsdo ... 01-001.htm
That's the internal document that TC staff is supposed to know (they don't!) when they process your application. If you know what they should be doing you'll have the upper hand - just remain polite when you point out to them how incompetent they are.

Good luck!
