I thought about this angle once. Since we do have the piloting skills; I'm sure that the guy that operate those unmanned surveillance drones could use a hand. Just who runns them things anyway?

Good idea SkyWolfe. I am in the process of doing that too. I am flying floats in order to fund the undergrad, and hope to hit Conair later on to boost the income as the costs increase. I did the Multi Turbine IFR thing and didn't care too much for it.
Sept 2010 is back to school day, then it's seasonal flying from there on!
Good luck to all with their other plans. Keep moving; things will happen.

I'd finish law school. I am considering going back even now.

Seeing as I'm too friggin' old to worry about this stuff, I'll just collect my pension and sit back and BBQ more steaks and sip more wine. After nearly 60 years of messing with airplanes and dealing with nutty pilots its time to kick back and have another glass.

Probably a police officer or maybe real estate since I doubt I'll ever get signed by an NHL team.

Re: You Can't FLY....Now What??
Probably go direct into an apprentice job at one of the hangars, would be pretty easy if I lost my medical.

Do more wrenching.
I would like to either do homebuilding for people who don't want to get their hands dirty or refurbish old or antique aircraft and do private annuals to fill the rest of the time.

Depends... If I needed money, I'd go back to running a Bulldozer, if I didn't I'd get back into more ferrier work. Though that would be good money too, the only thing I know of that people will spend more money on than airplanes is horses.
Funny though, now that I think about it, riding horses and driving a dozer both requrie a fair ammount of feet-hand-eye coordination, much like an airplane...

Re: You Can't FLY....Now What??
Spent much of the spring on pogey and my wife's nerves.
It was pretty sobering to realize that I don't have any particularly marketable skills beyond aviating. I was suddenly in my early 20's again, only uglier.
I'm hammering through an accounting degree, of all things. Actually finding it really interesting. Also I can't say enough good things about Athabasca University. Todays distance education can be top notch. What really sucks is when I think back to all the computer games and meaningless internetting I did while on medevac call for 3 years. Now I have belatedly decided to get a degree, and have to juggle it with a busy job, renos etc. So take heed, if you are out there in the YFB's of the world with time to kill. Suck it up and get the career insurance now because playing catch up in your mid-30's is no fun, and in your 40's would be down right frightening.

You can rent my boat...I'll even consider some trade in place of money.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

When I left flying I went teaching at a college for two years, Physics and chemistry were not as much fun as flying so I tried trucking, I acquired my own authorities and had five trucks.I still made over 100 grand per year but didn't have as much fun as I did flying.
