Delta Air Park is another. Landing to the East, Final Leg is at a 45 degree angle thanks to a new buyer. It has always been a mystery to me why this guy got away with it. It's all volunteer there, and he had deeper pockets me thinks.looproll wrote:Springbank was awesome! "@#$! OFF" in huge letters ploughed into the farmer's field

I remember that one. He was kind enough to write it twice. So you could read it right side up whether you were landing or departing.looproll wrote:Springbank was awesome! "@#$! OFF" in huge letters ploughed into the farmer's field

Re: "F U YVR"
He wasn't upset about the noise. He was upset because all of his neighbours were making millions selling their land for residential. He couldn't sell his land because it was too close to the airport. They re-zoned his land as commercial so he was happy and stopped plowing love notes in his field.nimbostratus wrote:I remember that one. He was kind enough to write it twice. Re: "F U YVR"
Richmond is full of jokers like that. My favorite was the guy on the approach to 26R who won his lawsuit a few years back. The guy emigrated to Canada in 1994.... From straight off the plane to complaining about the noise they make.
The guy who takes the retard prize lately is the dude who built across from the Beaver along Middle Arm and promptly started trying to shut the floaters down. The kicker is he is a retired AC Captain. How the hell could he not have been aware, let alone not expect, a bit of airplane noise from YVR? I wonder how many people he woke up or disturbed during his career? Idiot.
None of the north runway complaints have any merit. It has been common knowledge to anyone since the late '70s that the airport would expand north. I had a relative who was going to buy a chunk of property where 'FU YVR' guy lives now circa 1981. One trip to the then Municipal Hall revealed the development plan and the deal was off... That was 13 years before the north side was built so there is no excuse for any of these assclowns. The guy I mentioned first was probably able to see the ground being prepped when he taxied in at YVR and yet still bought on the flight path. Why should anyone feel sorry for someone that stupid. None of these people deserve compensation unless it is in the form of a punch in the head IMHO.

YVR has been operating officially since 1931.. there have been floatplanes on the river before and ever since. You'd have to be blind and deaf to not have noticed.
MOST of the airports in canada have been around longer than the housing developments that complain.

Actually, the airport used to be at Lansdowne Park before YVR. Could you imagine the noise complaints from that?Rowdy wrote:YVR has been operating officially since 1931.. there have been floatplanes on the river before and ever since. You'd have to be blind and deaf to not have noticed.

Too true. They built up around Boundary Bay (to the west) a decade ago. One of the first things the new residents did is start a group to petition for it to be shut down.Rowdy wrote:YVR has been operating officially since 1931.. there have been floatplanes on the river before and ever since. The were going door to door canvassing for signatures and came to the house of a girl I knew. Her family had been in the area since her Grandpa had moved there during WWII to help train pilots. She opened up on the two women with a history lesson I'm sure they never forgot about how the airport predated any of that crap and had contributed to a war effort that made it possible for them to complain. She said she railed on at the women for ten minutes as they inched backward down her driveway. I covered her bar tab that night. Good girl...
I've lived beside railway tracks and on the flight path my entire life it seems. I have no sympathy for those who move close to them and have the gall to complain after the fact.
I really want to meet Mr. FU in person to see if he has lobotomy scars.... If he doesn't he has no excuse for the childish behavior. I remember when his house was a cow pasture. The cows are long gone but the $hit is still there apparently...

Re: "F U YVR"
They built up around CYNJ too! and the urban sprawl will soon surround Pitt Meadows and Chilliwack.. its only a matter of a couple years. If the city planners have any say anyways
Re: "F U YVR"
I flew the first 300 hours of my career out of YNJ. I never ceased to be pissed off about the fact you aren't allowed to do circuits at night/lights shut off early because people who moved in 10 years ago complained about an airport that had been there for over 70 years. And it's not the city planners, it's the airport manager who makes the call isn't it? (pls don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Langley airport management, I actually think they do an absolutely fantastic job of running the airport).Rowdy wrote:They built up around CYNJ too! and the urban sprawl will soon surround Pitt Meadows and Chilliwack.. its only a matter of a couple years. Re: "F U YVR"
The airport manager with pressure from the city/township of langley and the local citizens made the concession. I remember the petition going around a number of years back.

Re: "F U YVR"
Same sort of idiocy has been going on around Toronto Island Airport, for decades now.
The condo commandos move in, and decide to shut down an airport that was there, long before they were.
Sigh. What's annoying is that all too often, these kinds of people are successful, if for no other reason that when you get that kind of residential buildup around an airport, the land of the airport simply has become too valuable - it ends up getting sold off for development. And another airport bites the dust.
When you combine all the GA airports shutting down around large cities in Canada, with all the small towns unable to (and uninterested in) administer their airports, aviation in Canada is in deep doo-doo.
Can I say "doo-doo" here? Will this post be mysteriously censored? Will posts referrring to this mysteriously censored post also be mysteriously censored? Will other threads that crop up referring to the mysterious censoring of "doo-doo" be locked, and then mysteriously disappear?

Re: "F U YVR"
This is something I really envy about our neighbors to the south. The general public has a much more positive attitude towards general aviation and small towns love their airports. I swear, you went down there to a town that didn't have an airstrip, people would be falling over themselves to give you money to build it. Twice when down there at a small strip someone has told me what they would do for me if I moved my operation there. If I could work Stateside I might be tempted. When you combine all the GA airports shutting down around large cities in Canada, with all the small towns unable to (and uninterested in) administer their airports, aviation in Canada is in deep doo-doo.

Re: "F U YVR"
The guy at Delta Air park built his house exactly on the centre-line of R25 even though there was a covenant on the property due to the Air Park operation. This was more than 20 years ago...and he has been a PITA ever since.
The gong show west of Blunder Bay started with a guy who worked at YVR and when the sound monitoring truck was sent out to check on the noise levels this same guy and his goons wanted to clobber poor Claudio who was doing the monitoring...after he explained that the loudest noise was from the creaps lawn mower.
And I got a reprimand for running a right hand circuit on R12 when it was manditory for safety...with a Sikorsky S61 operating to 1500' on the north side.
The bitch-and-stitch goons will always be there no matter how made times you give in to their complaints.
