That sounds about right, although I will go along with OFD's side of the arguement. Years ago, a pilot from the Quebec Government Air Service hit a friend with a Beaver on floats. Killed the guy on the ground, and he was charged with and found guilty of manslaughter. I seem to remember he spent about 18 months in jail for the buzz job. While that pilot may have started out in the second camp, I'm willing to bet he changed his mind.Nark wrote:Buzz jobs are a calculated risk. Form what I comprehend; OFD is saying it's not worth the risk. Doc is saying it needs to be calculated carefully. ??

Re: Fort Good Hope-Horrible news
A "buzz-job" is something stupid that many of us did when we were young, but those of us who survived them saw the light and realized that being excited to the point of death is, well, just silly.
I remember a guy who buzzed the forestry building somewhere in a Tracker, he came across the lawn lower than the top of the building and kind of flew up the side of the building. I think he sucked off some shingles and it certainly got the attention of those of us who were standing on the deck! Little did Our Hero know that the Chief Pilot was sitting inside, nursing a coffee, so when Our Hero walked into the building, he was invited into an office for a little chat... The rules and regulations and b*llsh*it that came out of that event changed the entire company culture for ever.
Just don't do it. You don't normally fly at high speed just off the ground with zoomy pull-ups so why try and get proficient at it over people or other's property?

well wishes to all those involved!!!

Wish I'd seen that. A beat up in a Tracker! Now, that would have been impressive!!

"Hey Goose, it's time to buzz the tower"
I hope the guy on the ground comes out good as new, I too was there once, not hit but almost hit. I fortunately had the presence of mind to stand off to the side and crouch down, I also was not looking through the view finder, so when he drifted(or turned) towards me, I was ready and dove out of the way. If your going to take a risk, you should be ready for something to go wrong and react to it.
As far as the head injury ending his career, I know a guy who fell 15' to cement and cracked his skull, he had a couple weeks or a month off but ended flying again. So hopefully this will turn out the same way.

Re: Fort Good Hope-Horrible news
Unfortunate news. This is to make it aware to everyone that the critically injured pilot is awaiting his immediate family to arrive at the hospital prior to being taken off life support to say their final farewells. This information is accurate as of 2345 on the 22nd of May 2010 and has been approved by his family. Respectfully, I am not willing to release the name of the individual on AvCanada, however anyone who knows this pilot is asked to pass the word around. I am planning on posting a link to the funeral arrangements, once received, on this same forum topic. Please hold the pilot and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks...

When something like this happens, it leaves me pretty much without comment. As xsbank remarked, "What a waste", 'nuff said, for now.

This is terrible news, and my thoughts also go out to all those involved.

Re: Fort Good Hope-Horrible news
Hi there,
I feel the frustration of the Avcanada members. We all see and hear of incidents / accidents like this and wonder why the people involved didn’t see the incredible risk they were taking, and anticipate the worst case scenario. I my opinion, no revenue or recreational flight is worth a worst case scenario that you can’t live with. I guess you can tell I’m no gambler!
That being said, at this moment there is a young man’s family and loved ones trying to deal with this devastating reality. As well, a fellow pilot likely wondering how he/she is going to be able to live with themselves – realizing how a split second action ( I would hope it wasn’t a conscience decision) affects outcomes. Last but not lease, there is a company dealing with an unbelievable nightmare (whether it be operational control issues, lack of oversight or a few pilots with a momentary lack of good judgment) that will affect everyone from AE down.
These people are hurting and as fellow member of the aviation profession my thoughts go out to them.
I would like them to know people from the aviation community extend their sympathies.
I believe in humanity first, personal opinion second.
Please Fly safe

Unfortunate news. The pilot, William Bleach "The Gentle Giant" has succombed to his injuries sustained in the Thursday accident. He was surrounded by family and friends and will be greatly missed. Listed below is a Facebook url. linking you to a page which will include funeral arrangements within a few days. Initial plans are to hold the funeral in the Guelph area sometime this weekend or early next week. The family has requested, that anyone in the Flying Community planning on attending the funeral, to wear their respective flying uniforms. Thoughts and sympathies to all those affected. Please feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Re: Fort Good Hope-Horrible news
Horrible news,
I understand the company has a training bond that is paid into every two weeks. The lump sum is returned after two years of employment. I hope the family has no trouble getting what Bill had put in to help pay for funeral costs.
It would be in good taste, considering what wages the junior pilots get paid over there.
RIP Bill

Very Very sad news.
I will keep this accident close at hand the next time I get tempted to go for a buzz.
My thoughts are with all involved

Re: Fort Good Hope-Horrible news
My thoughts go out to the family of William, and to the entire North-Wright family. Also to the people of Fort Good Hope, there has been a lot of Aviation related pain over the years there.
If any of the guys are reading this, stick together, talk about it and remember the good memories, it eventually doesn't hurt as much.

I am so sorry to hear that William lost his battle. We were all hoping for a miracle. I add my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

This is wrong. Bill shouldn't be dead. It's moments like this that make me wish I gave him one more hug. We used to study together and have game meat dinners. Billy, I hope you didn't suffer
