Re: More news on Jazz
Folks the comments from howzat on the last page are perfect examples of what you will hear from management starting now and running right until the deadline and into a strike. He could even be Jazz management for all you know.
DON'T BITE!
Management is shaking in their knees at the 99% yes vote from this completely solid and unified pilot group.
Career Contract - We are NOT asking.

Looks like another unified group at Jazz...

Strike Vote Result
99.5%
On Friday May 28, 2010 the final Strike Vote results were provided to the Executive of the Canadian Flight Attendant Union.
Jazz Flight Attendants have voted 99.5% in favour of strike action, if necessary, to back their contract demands.
For the past two weeks, Flight Attendants have taken time out of their busy schedules to attend strike vote meetings across the country in order to receive information on the outstanding issues at the bargaining table as well as cast their strike vote.
Your Bargaining Team couldn't be happier with the mandate that we have received from the membership. It is clear from these meetings, that Jazz Flight Attendants are united in their quest for a fair and equitable Collective Agreement that recognizes our contribution to Jazz's success to date.
We are returning to the bargaining table June 07-11. We are confident that this overwhelming strike vote result will send a loud and clear message to Jazz Management.

What kind of date are we looking at for stike by either employee group?

Re: More news on Jazz
I'm not sure about the F/A's but the "cooling off" period for the pilots ends at midnight on June 12. They could legally strike any time after that.

I hope they settle. This could throw the proverbial monkey wrench into my commute.

By "they", are you referring to the Pilot's or the F/A's? Either one going on strike could throw the proverbial monkey wrench into your commute.Conquest Driver wrote:I hope they settle. This could throw the proverbial monkey wrench into my commute.

Panama:
I believe the FA's are in a legal strike position after the pilot group. On the pilot side, June 13 and I think the FA's is a day or two after that.

What are the real chances of this happening? What the crews are asking for is reasonable but will management think that?

Re: More news on Jazz
yes but there's not many details such as pay raise, more days off, less days off, a better pension plan, what% of contribution to this pension plan etc etc ?
If you have numbers would you mind writing them , thanks ?

Re: More news on Jazz
Really there are no solid numbers .. negotiations are on-going .. which means everything is a variable right now.
I could tell you our wish list, but those will have changed again by tomorrow. So whats the point?

Re: More news on Jazz
F/A's can only shut the Airline down, if the company "wants" (Union induced lock-out) it shut down.
They can (and have in the past) be replaced with a three day course.
Only Pilots and AME's can truly shut the joint down.
It's called "Skilled (and licensed) Labor."

So why is BA "allowing" the FAs to shut them down?Johnny767 wrote:F/A's can only shut the Airline down, if the company "wants" (Union induced lock-out) it shut down.

I appreciate your point in that pilots and AMEs are licensed labour, I wish we would recognize that more as a collective.

They're not! BA is actually operating the majority of their schedule. A lot of pilots have been through training and are acting as FA's!
Re: More news on Jazz
Yikes, after the labour dispute I am sure the FAs will have nothing but positive things to say about the pilots that did their job. Was that a separate endorsement on the pilots licence?whiteguy wrote:yycflyguy wrote: So why is BA "allowing" the FAs to shut them down?

Reminds of the story of the new hire FA that tells the FO, "my training took me 6 weeks, how long was yours?". The FO states that with ground school, sims and line indoc it took around 8 weeks. The FA says "you mean for another 2 weeks I could have been a pilot?"
Re: More news on Jazz
Walsh has already struck deals with other unions that will cut 78 pilot jobs and improve productivity at the airline’s aircraft maintenance unit, and Mott Macdonald’s Price said the flight attendants are overestimating their own importance.
“It takes years to train pilots and engineers but it only takes weeks to train cabin crew,” he said
BA is toying with the F/A's, Willie Walsh has already removed their Travel Privileges.
The above quote is priceless.
Why BA Pilots lowered themselves to F/A's is a mystery?
Here in Canada, change "weeks to train," to "three days."

Re: More news on Jazz
Where is Jazz going to get that many temp FA's? They may be unskilled labor, but they do have the ability to shut the airline down all the same, as would any group with that kind of numbers doing a required job.
I wish both groups well and hope the company comes to their senses.

How would you like to be served a scalding hot coffee by one of the F/A's, who's picket line you "crossed"? Can you say HOT HOT HOT? Sure you can.yycflyguy wrote: Yikes, after the labour dispute I am sure the FAs will have nothing but positive things to say about the pilots that did their job. If Jazz decides to take on the F/A Union (whatever it is called,) and puts out the call for replacement F/A's.
They will have line-ups around the block.
Plus, they have the ability to do this, before the "walk out." We've seen this game played before here in Canada with F/A Strikes.
It's all a matter of how hard the corporation, chooses to play.

If the pilots are smart (and they never are) they would be sure to get their own coffee and food after crossing a picket line.Doc wrote:How would you like to be served a scalding hot coffee by one of the F/A's, who's picket line you "crossed"?
