Crashing with Oil+Gas passengers onboard is likely going to mean a long skinny winter for KBA in AB/BC

I am assuming by the last few post that it was in fact a pilot who perished in this awful accident.
Very sad day indeed.

Unfortunately it's back to work today. If your head is not in the cockpit due to this tragedy, please, stay on the ground.

Cheers to you Private. The world just lost a real stand up guy. It was a real pleasure being able to fly with you on one of your last flights before leaving Maldives for good.

This one hits close to home for me because I am a Cenovus employee who works at the Christina Lake plant just down the road from the Kirby Lake strip and we fly in and out of Kirby, been in and out of that strip 4 times in the last 2 weeks. I was a passenger on a crew change charter flight that left the Kirby strip yesterday morning just a couple of hours before the accident. I'm a private pilot and my observations were that the weather had to have been at or close to minimums, I was actually surprised that our airplane was able to land, I was expecting it to be redirected to Ft. Mac. I would estimate that the visibilty was about 1/2 mile. Sitting in the crew bus at the half way point of the runway there were times when we couldn't see the end of the runway. This was at about 8:30 yesterday morning. Of course conditions may have gotten better or worse in the next couple of hours.

As an oil industry worker who is regularly on these flights, I want to say thanks to the pilots and crew that get us back and forth to work, and offer my prayers and condolences to everyone involved in the accident, especially the family of the pilot.

:( CADORS update:
Narrative: UPDATE It has been confirmed that one of the two crew members was fatally injured in the accident and four other occupants were seriously injured and transported to hospitals in Edmonton and Fort McMurray. The aircraft impacted the ground near the threshold of Runway 08 at the Kirby Lake airport. TSB Edmonton has sent two investigators to the site.

Very sad. Condolences to all.

Brutal news :(

I don't know if the crash was because it was a -100. But I hate those planes and hope they retire them.

I remember AFD as an old, dirty dog.

That picture in the Sun today of AFD gave me the chills! I haven't flown in over 2 years and haven't flown AFD in even longer but I had flown her. Had also been into Kirby about a hundred times, and flew a lot in that area. Right prop and wing intact, left wing, engine, and cockpit almost completely destroyed. The fuselage looked mostly intact.

Seriously sorry to hear about his accident. My condolences to all KBAL people, friends and family, and pax from BP petroleum.

CJ

Edited: Just found a link to another seriously ugly picture of it.

It looks like this one may have hit a wing on landing. Anyone with info?
I know it's too early to tell, but that's what it looks like.
