Balanced on knees and elbows.

Got my first job on the condition that I passed my written (ride was already completed). Unfortunately I pooched the Met portion and had to wait the 2 weeks until I could re-write. The company hired me anyway since the airplane I was going to be flying was still in pieces so they hired me to help with put it all together. I got the morning off to do my re-write, passed it and got checked out that afternoon. First revenue flight was later that day.
That was in 1993, it's a pity times aren't as good as they were back then for the new guys now. I was just lucky I guess.

Took me a year from finishing my MIFR (right after my CPL) before I got a ground job.

Thanks for the responses!
Seems like 6 months to a year on average, which is good. Especially since I have steady full-time work to tide me over while I look.
It sounds like the lesson here is to make a good impression throughout your flight training and to get out and meet people face to face.
