well initially YYC was very short. So all new hires were sent there. Now that YYC requirements are filled, other positions become available and those already hired probably got a transfer and preference to other bases first leaving open positions in YYC again. thats my take
Well it seems that the passes will only be available to new hires after 6 months of employment....let's make their life a little harder, especially for the guys with kids back home!
I'm sure they eliminated the 6 month probation on passes a long time ago .. but if they reinstated that policy its no big deal as your allowed to use passes for the purpose of commuting to and from work. You won't be able to use the passes for personal travel till the 6 month probation is over.
Talk to your base administrator for details about passes .. they'll get you in touch with the people you need. Don't take everything you hear on AvCanada as gospel.

I'm guessing that you work for AC, so lets paint this senario for ya.
You cancel my pass's, do you really think that I or anyone else is going to go that extra mile to go to work? Nope.. which means Jazz company suffers cause lots of guys can't get to work, which means cancelled flights, which means AC. YOU. suffer because AC gets a worse rap than it already has, meaning that AC goes in to chapter 11 AGAIN.
But hey maybe I am just the type of guy that doesn't live to work. Maybe I should care about going to work more than I do, but you know what I got a 15 month old at home that I would much rather be a home with rather than deal with ACPA's petty shit.

Relax dude, he's just a new hire from the April GS sharing some information in his own style.
It was confirmed to me by HR that passes only kick in after 6 months. It's sad to come back on previously acquired "rights". Was this part of the new contract?
Anyway, if what localizer says is true then it's no big deal indeed. It's not like we'll have holidays in the first 6 months anyway.
oh I am relaxed,
As I said I'm at home right now, I have been for 3 weeks. I am just sick of the mud slinging between our 2 groups(ACPA vs. ALPA) It's getting so pathetic that I avoid the crew rooms all together now just so I don't have to listen to someone bitch and moan.

B.
That must be very new I started on Feb 14 and got passes right away. My folks have already used them 2x and I'm taking the wife to SEA next week for our anniversary.
In any case you can still JS with your RAIC with a few carriers including WJ, I've run into a few commuters who prefer using WJ since their fees can be cheaper on some routes.

I was referring to the 6 month delay on pass change...I guess I could have elaborated; however I didn't know the entirety of details...and dont want to mislead anyone...and as buzz said...it was via tonge in cheek. Sarcasm was a way of life up north and I will have to work on toneing it down dramatically being back at home....I do recind my previous post and appologize if I took things in the wrong direction. I do look forward to flying with...as previously stated...the best pilot group in the industry.

On a more constructive note......to all those who are prepping for a groundschool. BRING A DUFFLE BAG/FLIGHT BAG!!!!
You have about 5 or 6 full binders that you get on day one/two that you must bring with you every day, and a smaller style bag just doesn't cut it. Also the hotel shuttle will bring you to whatever building you are at for the day...just make sure to book it at the front desk the night before. Expect about a 10-20 min delay in pickup time....maybe include that in your booking.
As for the area around the hotel....theres lots of food to choose from. Kelseys, Timmys, Milestones, Swiss Chalet, Subway...all within 500m of the hotel....unfortunatly no grocery stores or lcbo around.....so if you wanna just have breaky in your room maybe bring some bagles and cereal from home. Also, when your at the Aerocenter for the day...they will supply lunch, but at CAE you are not....but there are restaurants within walking distance of there as well...
If anyone has any other pressing Q's...again feel free to PM me!
You'll get weekends off when you're doing the theory, and in the sim, still 2 days off but somewhere in the week, depending on your schedule. You're still supposed to have 12 days off per month, and 4 credit hours per training day + perdiems.
If you take the bus 58 towards Lawrence West Stn, you'll find a beer store, food basics and laundromat just 5 mins away from the hotel on the corner of Dixon and Kipling.
Looked through the contract and I can't find anything to suggest per diems are less during trianing, so they should be 78.06 per day. Unless your training is being done at your awarded base, it could be lower in that situation.

You have less per diems during initial training because they consider you base in YYZ during all your initial training (but your at the hotel). So if your course is from 9 to 17h00, you get per diems for only those 8 hours. I know it sucks, but it will get better faster.
When I was in initial training +3 years ago, our per diems were just under $30/day. Everyone is considered YYZ based for initial training, so if you train in YYZ, your per diems will be lower compared to doing it in YVR, where its closer to $80.
