hovering F-35s?
It's important to realize that wings don't actually create lift by accelerating a mass of air downwards (F=MA) and equal and opposite reaction, because Sir Isaac Newton was a Nasty Man (tm) and everyone knows that if you're a Nasty Man, that invalidates the technical merit of everything you say, because feelings are more important than anything else.

In the spirit of peace and love and brotherhood and new age love and the flying Bernoulli brothers, we all actually know that lift is produced by giant Hoover vacuum cleaners in the sky, creating suction on the tops of wings and rotor blades. This is where lift really comes from.

Next week: mounting wind turbines on aircraft to produce renewable energy.
Shut up Hedley, how about you go back to the drawing table and do some calculations or something, aviators are talking.

Why no F-22's in the area yet ?
Are they scared the Russians may try out some new anti-aircraft missiles,Like the Americans did on Soviet equipment in Afghanistan or the French experimented against the British ships with their new exocet missile in the Falklands ?
Any guess's from the peanut gallery ?

Yes. But this thread (despite what it's title might suggest) isn't about Libya.

To correct the tread, the UN has no fighters. And they are not in Libya...yet...

There is now one fighter in Libya, an F-15...

Sigh. One last post on the issue

from 2010: BP set to begin oil drilling off Libya

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-10751128

The Gulf of Mexico spill has raised serious safety concerns for BP Oil giant BP has confirmed it will begin drilling off the Libyan coast in the next few weeks.

The deepwater drilling will take place in the Gulf of Sirte following a deal signed in 2007 with Libya on oil and gas development.

The news comes amid major concerns over BP's environmental and safety record following the Gulf of Mexico spill.

What we fight for?? I don;t see little girls going to school mentioned in this article...
I am the war president! No child left behind.
"We know he has WMD".

"They will throw flowers at our feet, their children will sing songs of praise".
"It's be a cakewalk".

Reason for war? Gaddafi wanted to nationalise oil
25.03.2011
The Libyan leader proposed the nationalisation of U.S. oil companies, as well as those of UK, Germany, Spain, Norway, Canada and Italy in 2009.

On January 25, 2009, Muammar Al Gaddafi announced that his country was studying the nationalisation of foreign companies due to lower oil prices.

"The oil-exporting countries should opt for nationalisation because of the rapid fall in oil prices. We must put the issue on the table and discuss it seriously," said Gaddafi.

"Oil should be owned by the State at this time, so we could better control prices by the increase or decrease in production," said the Libyan leader.

These statements have worried the main foreign companies operating in Libya: Anglo-Dutch Shell, British Petroleum, U.S. ExxonMobil, Hess Corp., Marathon Oil, Occidental Petroleum and ConocoPhillips, the Spanish Repsol, Germany's Wintershall, Austria's OMV , Norway's Statoil, Eni and Canada's Petro Canada. In 2008, the Libyan state oil company, National Oil, prepared a report on the subject in which officials suggested modifying the production-sharing agreements with foreign companies in order to increase state revenues.

As a result of these contract changes, Libya gained 5.4 billion dollars in oil revenues

If you think any modern war is about oil you have not been paying attention.
Oil will find its way to the world market ,no matter what country it comes from and no matter how evil the government of the country it comes from.
The West was quite happy to let Saddam build the worlds 5th largest army in exchange for oil.The west sold him the weapons of mass destruction (GAS) that he used against the Kurds in the North and was quite happy to let him and his sons torture and kill Iraqis. It was not a problem until he threatened to use those weapons against Isreal.
Ghadaffi was sold all kinds of weapons from semtex to mustard gas and even some idiots sold him stolen nuclear technology. It was only he threatened to support the Palestinians that his doom was cast.
Wait and see how long the Saudi Arabian regime lasts if they soo much as fart in the direction of the Holy Land.Pay attention to how long their new military toys last in the days after they openly support Palestine.
America may to scared by the 1.5 million Iranians who live in California to attack Iran directly they will probably just arm Iraq and let Iraq go after them.
