My rotations ranged from 2 on 2 of YEV, to 3 on 3 off YFB. During the busy times in the oil patch you'd get your 3 days of to reset when you got home (whatever days of the week they fell on) and then be on call for the entire rest of your 2/3 "off". More specifically you'd be a "FCM on reserve" by the CARS. Then at the end of your days out you'd get 3 off to reset before going back up north. So to be totally honest in a 3 week on 3 week off rotation you actually only get 6 days off, the rest are reserve. That said I still went snowboarding, got drunk, whatever as long as I wasn't scheduled to fly.
If you meet contrail as a captain you can bet your winters will be brutally busy if the crew changes are moving. If the patch is slow, or there are an abundance of other time builders who want the hours more than you do you could be pretty bored with your week days off. I worked odd jobs, framing houses, temp jobs on an assembly line, and building bicycles. As for getting sent back up north during your time off/out it never happened to me. I worked 3, 2 week rotations back to back when my opposite had a baby but I felt like I was given the choice. This was BE10/20 so any other grouping could be different.

Does anyone know if they have completed the hiring for the captain position yet?

just curious:
Thanks for posting the very detailed and very informative post about your company. It sure provided the best explanation and insight into your company I have ever read. It was thoughtful of you to take the time to write things up like that.
I remember meeting Harry Hanlan in Burma in 1991, back when I was there flying Twin Otters for Zimex - I recognize some of the other names you mentioned as well. It's sure a small world.

We were just talking about Harry Hanlan when he was flying GOG for Gulf Oil in the Mackenzie Delta/Swimming Point. Pre KBA I think.

In that small world of aviation coincidences, KBAL owns GOG now. My copilot and I were talking yesterday about Harry, and his Breitling watches from Thailand. Best 50 dollar Breitling I've ever owned.

Best of luck to those who apply.
I've been here over 10 years, and the lifestyle suits me and my family just fine.
Usually you work hard, and then there's time to play hard.

Do Kenn Borek operate any DHC-3T Otters ?
No.. They do not operate any DHC-3T's. Solely twin engine aircraft. King air 100/200, Beech 99's, Twin otters and the Basler DC-3s.
MFA and JC... think they'd let me back in the twotter??

Whats the matter rowdy, purgatory is suiting you too well?
