Re: Forced Approaches

Post by HighDreams »

I'm currently working on my ppl here in Ottawa. The past week I've been going over emergency procedures and forced landings. I did a 15 min minny briefing with my secondary instructor and went up and she told me to focus on for the 150, maintain 60 kts, carb heat on, and choose a good field to land. When I flew with my primary who has 30 years experience and is a class 1, he went over forced landings on the ground for at least 45 mins. We went up the next day and spent the time just going over those. Since then when we're doing circuits he'll be asking me if the engine failed where would I land and he'll simulate an engine failure in the circuit and I have to aim for the button. I'm always thinking where can I land? And a couple weeks ago before I even got into the forced landings, we had engine trouble right upon takeoff.
