Close, more like Southwest or Eastern though... and we all know what happened to the Eastern pensions.

SierraOscarSierra, ask yourself this question: If i get turned down by (a) AirCanada or (b) Porter which decision will I accept more readily?

Speaking from a biased position, much like Valhalla, Porter is an exciting place to be and a world of opportunity. But please, please, please don't think Porter as the backup plan if AC doesn't pull through for you.

And in general to anyone else considering Porter don't think us merely as a stepping stone; to the majority of us this is the place, and we need team-builders not transient-takers.

Wasn't Southwest profitable within the first five years?

Neither of these operations are financially stable, however my bet would be that in another 5, 10, or 15 years, there remains a high probability that AC will still be around (in some form). Less probability for Porter (just an opinion).
Going to AC gets you something important- a seniority number. If you were a furlough victim at AC, you have some sort of protection. However at Porter, respectfully, all bets are off.

It's akin to being a teacher. You are offered a job working for a school board in a public school. At the same time, the local Montessori school offers you a job. Where do you go?

I know where I'd be going.
