The topic is more than a year old, but I've taken up some of the advice of the people above in the time that has passed. Many thanks for the info and the PM's.
I am now/will be in the possession of a Canadian CPL SMELS license and a permanent residence card. At this time, it feels like I am at the end of my struggle, while basically, I am just at the starting point really. The hardest part is yet to come: to find that first job. So I was hoping to pry your minds and develop a plan on how to proceed.

Some information that might be relevant.

- 700 hours total time
- 550 PIC
- 300 hours instructor time
- 65 hours sim
- 7 hours on floats
- IFR / CPL / Multi group 1 / instructor class 4 / float rating
- Looking for a job anywhere in the Manitoba area.

My dream job would be flying floats in summer, (light)twins in winter and instructing on the side. I don't have the big airline virus, but of course I wouldn't refuse such a job, or any flying job for that matter

What I would like to know, or hear some opinions about is:
1) What would be the best time to make the move to Canada. I can leave my current job in january/february. But doing the road trip in the middle of winter might not be the smartest move.
2) When should I start sending out resumes: right now, so I get to the front of the queue by february, or wait a few months so my resume would land in the mailboxes at the right time people are needed ?

There are tons of similar questions on this forum, and I dare to say I've probably read them (almost) all, yet I couldn't fight the urge to ask it here again.

Thank you for your time, and any advice here or via PM is greatly appreciated!

1) What would be the best time to make the move to Canada.
Not before you have your permanent resident card. After that, spring generally sees a bit more movement than the rest of the year.
2) When should I start sending out resumes
Resumes can be sent anytime. The order in which they arrive has little impact on who gets hired.
Things that will have more impact with people you meet to potentially recruit you:
-who you know
-what they can tell about you
-how your experience/qualifications match the company's needs and set you apart from others applying for the same job
-timing/luck

The couple years ahead of you can be tough. Supply of low-time pilots is way bigger than demand, even though here is not as bad as Europe where the job market is terrible not just for pilots. Hence in many cases low income and work conditions that could be better. However, this is no excuse for accepting to do anything dangerous. Better leave a stupid operator than end up in a pile of metal.
