Congratulations, KHills, that's awesome. I bet you're the last to get into that course, seeing as it's coming right up.

I just got a green light for VFR, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they put on another course this year.

Quick question, at what point do you know which stream you're in? (how long after the green light following the 2nd interview?)

If you got the green light following the 2nd interview then it will say what stream you are in on the right hand side of the screen. Read through all the fine print.

Hey Boomer_12, did you interview recently? What are they saying these days about upcoming courses?

@Mint, yes passed the 2nd interview recently, but for the YUL region. Looking like there will be an IFR session this summer and VFR in early winter.

Yay..... got my final green light... so happy... IFR stream.

(must admit I'm a little scared of the IFR stream with the low passing rates)

How's everyone faring in the process now?

I'm still waiting for a training offer. I jump whenever I see an unfamiliar area code on my phone only to be disappointed that I won a cruise to the Caribbean.

I have a question for you guys. I'm in the YYZ area and am waiting for my in-person interview. It sounds like if you get the green light after the interview, you get placed into an FSS, VFR or IFR stream. During my telephone interview I was told that I would almost certainly be placed into the IFR stream due to my aviation background (I'm currently an airline pilot). I am however hoping to do VFR if I was offered a course. Is there the ability to request a preference as to which specialty you would want to work in? How and when do you make that request? I like the idea of VFR because I can live in my hometown rather than Toronto and the VFR checkout rate is much higher than IFR, so I want to give myself the best chance possible at succeeding.

DHC-1 Jockey - you get to request what stream you'd like to be placed in during the in-person interview. But remember that working in your hometown may or may not happen; there are quite a few towers in the YYZ FIR and you can be posted to any one of them. You can bid back to your hometown in a few years if something opens up, but it's not a guarantee.

Good luck on the second interview.

Thanks for the response. I'm aware that I could be placed in any tower in the YYZ FIR or the Centre itself, but I have my hopes on a tower position. A tower controller told me that to down-bid from IFR to VFR you have to be in your current position for minimum 7 years. To up-bid from VFR to IFR or to transfer locations VFR to VFR it's only 2 years. So, I'm hoping for a VFR position so that if I get posted to another tower, it's only 2 years until I can bid back to my desired location rather than 7.
