Same situation, only now flying C337. Do a GRP 2 ride every year, and have been told that my A will be re-VALIDATED on my next GRP I ride.

Airtids

Have you checked into the written exams if you stay at the commercial level more than 2 years.

FA28 guy Are you not confusing the requirement to complete the training and/or renew a rating as opposed to keeping a licence valid. I think they are two different things. At least I sure hope so for the PC12 pilots sake.
Once and ATPL, Always an ATPL as long as the medical and IFR are current. But it is good that you have brought up a different view so anyone caught in this predicament will realize there are different sides to the story and may be able to put up an argument if required. Computer glitchs can hurt. I know that at one time (4years ago) if you have enough time to write the ATPL exams but are lacking the time for the licence, if you got a type rating on a heavy or type rating required airplane, you could hold those marks "for further use". I thought that was what the IATRA exams were all about. For those who were being typed on sFAR 41 airplanes such as the Metro 3 and Beech 300 but did not have enough time to write the ATPL exams.

This is ridiculous, leave it to TC to come up with this. Whether you let your IFR lapse completely, or you do a Group II or III renewal, you will still have to complete a group I before you can 'exercise the privileges' of the ATPL.

I don't recall seeing any regulations stating that the ATPL exams would have to be redone after the IFR has lapsed for more than two years. The only exam requirement in that case, that I know of is the INRAT. Anyone know if this is not the case?

I worked hard to get my AA an wouldn't want to see it go bye-bye just because of a computer glitch. I would take some comfort in the fact that the sole requirement to get it put back on would be to do a group I ride. I certainly don't want to write those friggin retarded exams over again!

If memory serves me, I seem to remember receiving a new licence in the mail when I did my float training, (after my IFR had expired, and it still indicated instrument qualified, but with the expiry date showing it wasn't valid.) Seems to me, we as pilots can at least figure out whether we're allowed to 'exercise the privileges' of the AA or not. It shouldn't be removed.

End of rant.

It must be just the initial application that counts... maybe I am reading into this wrong, but isn't a Group 2 instrument rating "Single or Multi Centerline thrust" ie the MD80, CRJ, DC9, 727, Lear series etc... This would mean all the guys flying airliners don't have an ATPL (and we all know they do)

Those airplanes are not group 2 airplanes. They may have engines close to the fuselage but they're still not "centreline thrust". Close, but you still have to put some rudder in if an engine quits (or the airplane has to do it for you...). True group 2 airplanes are the C337, Adam A500 etc.

Just got told by someone at transport that the ATPL will just be reissued not time restraints. the written does not have to be done again. But again how often does the story change.

Exactly, you might get two completely different responses if you talked to Transport in two different regions!

Upontop...

It is not " you might..."

You will....

Since CAR's came on line they haven't got a clue what you must do. Each of them interpret CAR's to the best of their ability to comperhend the meaning of CAR's..................

Fu..ing frightening isn't it?

ATPL

If you have had a ATPL and have been current Group 3, Once you do a ride group 1 your ATPL will be reinstated. THIS IS A FACT.

Do you have a CARs reference for your shouted "THIS IS A FACT" statement? Of course, we all know that Transport plays fast and loose with the CARs and the Aeronautics Act when it suits them to do so.

You'll have to forgive me for being a bit skeptical of an anonymous posting by a new user. Transport might just laugh at me if I tried to use that as a reference, years from now.

"Some guy on a internet web site a few years ago said you have to give me back my ATPL now that I did my group 1".

I can just hear the laughing from Transport.

If I did a group 3, and got a commercial licence back from Transport, I'd file a "request for review" and a "request for stay" and a "request for disclosure" with the Civil Aviation Tribunal, in respect of the revocation of my Airline Transport Pilot Licence.

AFAIK there is nothing in the CARs on thsi subject, and every once in a while, Transport needs their knuckles rapped when they pull a stunt like this, to remind them that they have to obey the CARs and the Aeronautics Act just like the rest of us. They don't get to arbitrarily revoke someone's pilot licence just because they think it's a neat idea to do so.

Air Bravo is advertising a PC12 job must have IFR group one and ATPL.I wonder if they realize it goes to a group 3 and commercial the minute he renews with a PC12. why have the higher standard to start with.
