Then when we went out to the airplane to go fly, he declared to me as the ACP that we were ready to go.

Meanwhile there was about 4 inches of fresh snow on all flight surfaces ..... and before some wag says ..... "Oh, what's the big deal, it would have blown off in the takeoff roll." There was also about a half inch of ice frozen to the top of the wing and stab under the fresh snow because it had been brought out of a hot hangar into precip the night before.
....
I believe the YWG Caravan was also in a warm hangar but was pulled out for the flight to Thunder Bay only shortly before departure, still just barely above freezing outside at approx 5am Oct6/2005. It's not 100% clear where the icing first came into the picture, just that while circling back it crashed only a few minutes after takeoff from 36 and there was a W&B issue.

All depends on the age of the observer. To me, she was a young pilot.

She was younger than me, she was a pilot, and she was nice. Therefore, the info was correct.

If you're 17, maybe she could have been a grandmother with one foot in the grave and she was helped out to the aircraft with the aid of a walker ..... to quote the US Secretary of State when questioned about the loss of the Ambassador to Lybia ...... "At this point, what difference does it make?"

Glad to see "most people" let that gross distortion of aviation fact "slide," and haven't made anything of it. Perhaps regardless of that over-blown description of the 49 year-old pilot who was brought down in heavy icing conditions and ended up dying in an aircraft that burned as being "young," someone will have learned something from the information that I posted regarding training programs.

There is a comparison made in the article of two icing encounters at the same airport, the first one tragic and the second (5 years later) ending well by getting out of the icing conditions quickly. I checked the approximate time of the second occurrance (an incident) which shows the temperature at the CYWG airport around minus twenty Celsius, as opposed to aproximately zero degrees for the 2005 tragedy. I concur to celebrate the successful landing with the icing factor five years later; still, we could research exact date/time of the second (if no report avail) to understand weather encountered and to establish for certain for the record they are comparable enough to be declared similar.
