Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP conversion and study guide
Does anyone know how long the exam is good for? I wrote it a year ago, but never got the medical. Would I have to rewrite?

Strange. They told me the opposite. Maybe I better give the folks in OKC a call. Thanks for the heads up.Colonel Sanders wrote:That's what the FAA told me.if I have my letter of verification in hand and afterwards get a new medical certificate that it is no longer valid when I go to my FSDO?
Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP conversion and study guide
All set to go to FSDO in Renton,Wa.. Called talked to an inspector, I had a brand new medical. The verification letter had the old one. His response get a new letter or there will be nothing we can do for you.
So I got a new letter, faxed in and out in about 10 working days.

Where can I find an FAA test centre in the Toronto area?
I need to write the "FAA aeronautical knowledge test on air laws and communications" for the conversion.
I've looked, but information contradicts wherever I look.

It was a question, perhaps there was something close where I didn't have to drive to.
You have no idea how far from the center of the universe Toronto is for me bud.

Ok that sucks! Cause I did get a medical after getting my letter. Now does that screw up only your medical info? Cause I also got a valid FAA class 1 medical to go with the letter, or does it screw up the whole letter?ajet32 wrote:All set to go to FSDO in Renton,Wa.. I guess the silver lining is hat I didn't travel to the testing center only to find out I couldn't write the exams. I requested a new letter on spec.
Thanks for the info all!

You should still be able to write the exam; as long as the verification letter hasn't expired. The testing centre won't ask for your medical just the letter and your ID. I needed 2 pieces , driver license and Passport.
The FSDO might give you grief if the medical on your Canadian License has been renewed, same applies to an IFR.
Best of luck they were awesome in Seattle. I never get service like that from any Canadian government office.

Well I'll just have to call before I go to see if they will accept it, if not, I'll just wait for my new letter. Glad I found this thread cause I could have very well travelled to Fargo for nothing!ajet32 wrote:Outlaw58

DO NOT GET A NEW CANADIAN MEDICAL AFTER THE LETTER.
Took my 3 years to successfully synchronize
my paperwork with the FAA and TC. A real
test of patience.
I was on the 6 month medical treadmill, though,
which Gazette II shows us was not required.

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP conversion and study guide
I posted this on another Thread, but since the question is Googled so often, I thought I would cut and paste the post onto this thread.
The new TC to FAA ATPL conversion took effect on Aug 1, 2014, and thus far only 1 person that I am aware of, has passed through the cracks without meeting the new regs....
After getting bounced around the FAA Airman Certification office for a week or so, I finally got ahold of an examiner to explain the new rules.
In Short, to convert a Canadian ATPL to an FAA ATPL is $5000.00 USD($6000 cad), by the New ATP CTP course offered at one of these five training centers:
1. Embry Riddle Florida, - $5000
2. ABX Air , Ohio - $4500
3. CAE Simuflight, ?
4. ExpressJet - $5000
5. AeroSim $ 5000
The new ATP CTP course must be done PRIOR to writing the new knowledge exam. The old knowledge exam was test Code ACP which has now been changed to the new ACM test this month.
The problem with this, is that I already have 6500 hrs, in addition to experience on everything from a Cessna Citation to the Boeing 777.I also have almost 400 hours of Level D sim time. I've written the Airman Certification branch a long letter explaining the new requirements are grossly unjustified, and completely unobtainable for someone with my experience wanting to convert under the Reciprocal FAA/TC Agreement.
if ANYONE has a better idea, or a cheaper approach please contact me.
If you are interested in paying the $5000.00Us,($6000 cad) here is From AeroSim: Here is the total Course:

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP conversion and study guide
What about the other way? Has anyone heard to TC closing the reciprocal deal?
I've been to lazy to convert my FAA cert's back to TC. Perhaps I should sooner rather than later.

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP conversion and study guide
Years later, I don't know why TC has to sync with the FAA when a CPL minimum becomes standalone. Maybe it has changed. PPL remains tied to the origin country. But TC writes they don't know if any of it is current though the licenses do exist for the person. You prove currency and the foreign medical when you are in the other country, though you do need their foreign medical to apply.
