Just trying to broaden my horizons while on a couple of my 10 weeks paid holidays that I've earned while working all these years in an industry that people are trying to convince me is dying.

Geez...I hope it doesn't die before my flight home.

Hola!

i could almost believe your down south, being its a month away from the busy season and packages are dirt cheap, right where most ame's need them to be.

A more believable scenario is you sitting by yourself in a taco del mar ordering two beers for you and your ipad while you live your social life on avcanada.

10 weeks paid vacation?
Vacation property ?
$45/Hr?
Everything is sunshine and rainbows?

Hmmm, something isn't adding up here...I think we are all being taken for a ride with this guy. I mean, I would believe him if I never worked in aviation but unfortunately I did so the smoke screen isn't working on me.

Don't worry neverblue, I am not going anywhere. Someone has to keep the BS in check, and I am the perfect guy to do it. You see aviation is now a hobby and since I no longer use it to make a living I can be a lot more objective. I will never flat out tell someone not get into aviation but I am sure as hell not gonna cover up the facts with glitter and unicorns like you do.

The opposite of covering up facts with rainbows and unicorns is just as unreasonable. There are some people who think aviation is nothing but getting monkey sh*t force fed daily. I'm not picking on you or trying to single you out, just saying that it ain't all monkey sh*t (nor rainbows and unicorns).

Just like in the old 'he said she said' cliche, the REAL truth in aviation lies somewhere in between monkey sh*t and unicorns. That's all I'm trying to say here :D

Hey I don't care if NeverBlue praises aviation, but this guy cannot debate without getting all poopy-pants. Look up his author name in the search function. This guy cannot have conversation without flying off into some tantrum. Point/counter-point that's all that is required...look at it this way...when someone is defending their best friend and they know their friend is wrong ,things get irrational and logic goes out the window, that is what I am seeing here. Hence the 10 weeks of vacation, $45/hr, etc...not true and he knows it.

NeverBlue, I'll debate this topic anytime, I will stay on point ,and show you up every time, trust me with a black hole known as aviation maintenance it will be easy. We can talk money, work life balance, safety (non existent in AC Maint. btw), job stability, benefits, you name it ....and not limiting to power generation either. I can make aviation look bad with a waitresses tips from the Keg.

You're hilarious.

It's hard to debate with anyone when they keep calling you a liar.
But...here's another fact filled "tantrum"

If you are a touring AME with CHC helicopters you do roughly 4 tours a year
You get roughly 16 paid weeks off.
You can easily make $80k

...and most of them become xpats...you can look that up to see what it means financially cause I've had too much Jamesons to explain.

...and you say my head is in the sand

Well hold on a second. Have you ever done the math? CHC tours is 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off with a set salary is it not? The only way you make more than that salary (which is in the 6 figures I do believe) is if you happen to work into your six weeks off at which point they calculate a day rate. Ok so sounds good, work half a year, make 6 figures. But youre working 42 days straight, no days off in there right? So if you were working a standard mon to friday week you would have 6 weekends in there, twelve days, almost two weeks off. So your six weeks off is now really 4 weeks off, cause you just worked a compressed schedule. Like working a 10 and 4, youre not really getting four days paid days off every two weeks are you? Now if you were touring and working a satandard mon to fri 8 hour day but forced to work 42 days straight what would you end up with? If you took every hour you worked on the weekend at time and a half, banked it as time off plus the 4% the labour board says they have to pay you, youll get a lot of days off between shifts anyways, a few weeks worth anyways. OK well fair enough, but youre still getting a better deal with this six weeks off every other six weeks, even if its not as good as it may first seem. But factor in the overtime you work. If you were paid a standard hourly rate and overtime after 8 hours and did that for six weeks straight then took six weeks off with no pay besides your vacation pay you would probably make the same, or more likely more. And just because you may have many days where you dont really do any work because the helicopter is out flying, everything major is being deferred doesnt cut it. If youre taken out of your home and on the companys time you still are entitled to a minimum ten hour day. Whether you spend those ten hours fixing a helicopter, or hanging around makes no difference since one or the other doesnt get you ahead of the other financially. Do the math, look at the pros and cons just in dollars and cents (and theres a lot more to factor than what I mentioned), and dont get snookered by a sweet sounding deal.

I just used the search function. This Neverblues tone and writing style reminded me of another user that had similar experience and tone and weird reactions to reasonable debate. I think this guy used to be Gli77. If you use the search function it takes 10 seconds to see a similar pattern. It doesn't really mater I just had a hunch.

I was thinking exactly that yesterday. gli's last post was aug 2007, the other shows up in feb 2008, both e guys, and both bounce all over the place with long winded emotional replies.

gli77 said he was doing offshore heli work back then also, and here http://forums.verticalmag.com/index.php ... entry63113 he is inquiring several years ago about rotational work for CHC international...

welcome back, sweetheart.

Sounds like he's been slipping with the wages. He claimed $5 a/hr more in 2009

Trolls, trolls, trolls,

First of all, I'm Neverblue and nobody else

Secondly, I did the math already azimuth...6 weeks x 4 tours is 24 weeks off...but nobody works 7 days a week for 52 weeks a year so i took the Sat and Sun of every week on tour off of the total time off...that leaves roughly 16 weeks...and if you know anyone there...just ask them what they make Columbo.

Third, you're correct sir in your quote from 2009...I was including the overtime I made that year into my hourly rate as I took my total income for the year and just divided it by 2080

Now I make a salary and I don't work any overtime ( by choice)

Hilarious....y'all have no idea who i am or what I do

Azimuth...have YOU ever worked for CHC?
...tread lightly my friend.

So now we are using the rotational shifts overseas to make an argument regarding good AME wages in Canada...pure gold...

I tell ya it better be good money for that crap shoot. Missing birthdays, kids sporting events, wife banging the mail man, etc... Why can't we have good paying jobs for regular AME's? that get to go home everyday to see their families? That lifestyle simply wont last, been proven time and time again. Might work for a guy nearing retirement and kids are grown, or a young guy with few responsibilities. But I am talking the 30-45 year old average AME's in this county. I know at least 6 guys that worked for CHC when they had the 737, money was insane...BUT...they had to live in a compound and couldn't venture out anywhere for 6 weeks straight (gross). 5 out of the 6 only lasted 2 rotations.

Back to the money, I never said there wasn't good paying jobs in Canada. It is the industry average that is low, and the starting wages are very bad. Also, job stability is the absolute shits and that is a fact. The ACA AME's at WestJet are doing OK, 90% night shifts, but at least its decent money/benefits....always a trade off in aircraft maintenance.
