how he got that job.

Be creative. Be persistent. After a while,
it will just be easier to hire you.

Another (perhaps more useful) method might be to actually show up in person at the company you're interested in working at, and chat to people there.

be careful about consuming other people's
bandwidth. Often the people you want to
talk to are very busy.
