So I’m guessing by the fact you chose to attack me instead of what I said I was correct in my statement.
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Ok, fine. Can you elaborate on how we are not far removed from the foreign worker days? Certainly that incident was not to be celebrated. A number of airlines have had such unfortunate issues. Are you implying that the rest of us behave in such a fashion?Yycjetdriver wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 7:01 amOk.... good one.Handover wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 6:25 amEh? Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
I've worked at 3 705 companies, 1 704 and 1 703 and SWG is the best place I've been. Hopefully they stay in business a long time as I intend to stay the rest of my career here.
I think it's a good business model for a very seasonal business.
Note that Transat (who used to slag SWG for doing this) is using foreign workers themselves now to augment their winter flying. I'm not slamming Transat by the way. I know people who work there and they seem just as happy there as the people at SWG. Having these agreements allows SWG to have the flexibility to not lay-off pilots in the summer. And, we send far more pilots to Europe in the summer than SWG brings to Canada in the winter.Yycjetdriver wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 6:07 amSeriously? Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
So groundschool is scheduled on July only, can anyone here confirm?
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Is it still mandatory to go to Europe during summer? I was interested with WG because you could spend the whole summer with your family while on EI.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
This year, people were drafted to go who didn't want to. Other years, even if you want to go, your seniority may not be able to hold it and you spend the summer at your home base in Canada working a relaxed schedule.
Sunwing doesn't hire seasonal pilots anymore who get laid off in the summers.. all new-hires are permanent employees.
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Ok but if you're in a seasonal base in the winter that means you have to live in a big city in the summer?
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Yes - or you can deploy to europe for the summer and earn the big $$$
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Anyone interviewed since last job posting in march received a call back or GS date?
Since portal is now close, are they still hiring throughout summer and planning GS every month?

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Just as an indicator, my app is still in "New" Status which according to Jobvite means that they haven't even opened the application yet. I applied mid April just before the portal closed.
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Any news about GS in july? Is it still schedulled or not?

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Would 6000 hours+ corporate jet time (Challenger, Lear, Sovereign) meet the Captain upgrade requirements at SWG should a vacancy be available?
Also, has anyone from the May interviews had references called as of yet?
Thanks.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Fair enough. I ask this as the upgrade qualifications use the word “should” vs “must”.Handover wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 3:22 pmMinimum Upgrade QualificationsFree Woodpecker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 1:54 pm Would 6000 hours+ corporate jet time (Challenger, Lear, Sovereign) meet the Captain upgrade requirements at SWG should a vacancy be available?

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
should would mean that no one else higher meets these requirements. To answer your question, it is about 2 years now. Most people have come with light jet time - if less than 2 years then most likely already have PIC 737 or similar.Free Woodpecker wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:08 amFair enough. Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
To echo Munzil, a guy from my course upgraded almost a year to the day he was hired, and he didn't have any jet time over 100,000 lbs as per the matrix. He did however have lots of EMB 175 time and was a trainer and ACP, so they look at upgrades on a case-by-case basis which is a good thing. Not everyone who meets the matrix requirements is automatically "upgradeable." Personality, command ability, previous training records and even word-of-mouth from other trainers play a large role in whether you get upgraded or not.Free Woodpecker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 1:54 pm Would 6000 hours+ corporate jet time (Challenger, Lear, Sovereign) meet the Captain upgrade requirements at SWG should a vacancy be available?
As well, there is a note to the matrix that states that the 2,000 TT over 100,000 lbs can be reduced by 500 hours per year that you're with the company. So, after 2 years at SWG, you only need 1,000 TT over 100,000 lbs.
I've heard that 2 summer groundschools were postponed/cancelled as a result of the MAX issues. I can't confirm though, but it looks like hiring might be paused for a while until the MAX is back.Free Woodpecker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 1:54 pm Also, has anyone from the May interviews had references called as of yet?

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Interviews are starting July 15th for two weeks. Got the invite over the phone. I have no jet time, but have 4300TT and mostly turboprop MPIC and no 705 time. I was training captain at all of my companies I have worked so far. Bilingual, no degree but diploma. Good luck for those who applied! I applied to the posting from middle of March, 2019 so it took about three months to get the call. I also don’t have any internal references. If anyone has pointers for the interview, a PM would be great!

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Same thing happened to the guys in the May 2019 course. You’d probably be done your course by now if it wasn’t for the Max grounding.
Hang in tight, seems like there is course for aug, sep and oct. It’ll be worth the wait.
