Fascinating. How about some specific, credible detail as to why.

Sure… that now defunct COVID sub forum that populated this site for a number of years. There were definitely some flat earth society members and fellow conspiracy theorists who made that forum their home base with over the top drivel.

That is a different section that is defunct. Your statement said "this place does resemble a flat earth forum". Just kind of curious about your statement.......that your intent when you made that statement was with regard to the covid sub-forum. Actually, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.....of course it was.

Yes, correct. I could have been more specific as that Covid forum is where my thought process was headed. Personally I thought that particular forum went to long and became more dysfunctional , however that is my prospective.

There could be a million reasons for that? Where I am, last year we broke temperature records. A few watts saved on a wash cycle get's destroyed but running a 5000 watt AC for an extra few hours daily.

On the flip side, a mild season means people used too little energy so the board lets suppliers raise rates for a season

Flat Earth/Moon Hoax movements are deliberate disinfo ops designed specifically to de-legitimize criticism of the enforced consensus.

Global Warming/Climate change is very clearly an operation to control personal autonomy within a surveillance state. Anyone with half a brain can see through this. But brains are in short supply, as most people are consensus seekers, and ruthlessly enforce the herd consensus regardless of evidence to the contrary.

Be careful when going outside this summer, I hear there's a sudden explosion in tick populations in north america carrying exotic diseases which only came into existence a few years ago. Oh, and don't forget to drink your fluoridated water, it's good for your teeth! I hear they're going to add sunscreen to drinking water soon as well. And make sure to get your 6th booster shot, to slow the spread of course!

The EXPERTS always know best!

I tend to be extremely careful in order to avoid getting Lyme disease.

I also do like my fluoride water. I have only ever had one tiny cavity while both parents had loads of cavities.

Got 4 Covid shots and went out of my way to get them early to minimize longhauler possibility.

Common sense.

I think a lot of flat earthers are uneducated people who desperately want to think they're smarter than everyone by not being in on a "scam". They usually shut up once I point out balloons can't stay perfectly still for years....

I bought a huge amount of incandescent lights prior to the ban. Still have a lot left. I don't like the colour of the new type. I think they are also hazardous if they break.

Also got thousands of small plastic bags from someone I know that works at a retail store that had extras remaining after the ban. Still use them for my garbage bags in the kitchen.

Plus a few hundred plastic straws for whenever I want one for a nice cold summer smoothie.

Congratulations? In addition to using quite a bit more power than LEDs, incandescent bulbs also create a significant amount of heat. LEDs also create some heat, but nowhere near as much. As for the colour "issue" you describe, there's literally a full colour spectrum of fixed bulbs available - in addition to numerous "smart" or "dumb" bulbs that you can adjust to different colour temperatures... but you knew that already.

As for being hazardous, an LED bulb is not considered hazardous waste (unlike Compact Fluorescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes, etc.), but, they do contain a small amount of trace heavy metals and a circuit board - and are actually fully recyclable. You're also significantly more likely to break an incandescent bulb than an LED, as you've likely encountered.

But I mean, hey, congrats for sticking it to the man.

I'll take that heat in the winter. It was cool this week for a few days here and didn't feel like turning the heater back on again. More of an experiment, but left a lot of lights on and a couple of stove burners on medium over a few hours, the house warmed up from 64 to 67 degrees. I suppose I could use the new bulbs to save on CO from energy plants but no one seems too worried about a few AI calculations sucking up a lifetime of new lightbulb savings.

Have never broken one of the new lights and don't plan to experience it. Don't need that crap in the house from a broken modern light.

I just love my asbestos insulation. That itchy fiberglass can't be good for you. Or that cellulose stuff made from recycled paper. As if that makes a difference when hotels are still using paper plates.

Good thing I've stocked up on asbestos. That will teach 'em!

Looks like the climate change fanatics now equate plastic straws, plastic bags, and incandescent light bulbs with asbestos and PCB's. Nice news today about Guilbeault resigning. I'm sure he would think similarly.

Remember that earlier post where I said common sense. In fact, I washed my hands this week after touching a damaged asbestos-copper cylinder gasket. Now heading downstairs to take out the garbage in a plastic bag.

Don't worry guys, I know you prove your concern for the environment every time to start an aircraft engine. Appreciate the virtue-signaling attempt to compensate.

I hope you see the irony in your post. Not every technological improvement or advancement is done because of climate change. Yes, LED bulbs are pushed with the argument that it's better for the environment. It might be true. But that's not the main reason. Energy infrastructure is expensive to build, upgrade and maintain. Wasting 90% of energy in a widely spread appliance (light bulbs) is expensive for a society. It's not surprising that governments want to enforce the transition to a technology that's in most regards superior.

We changed from cameras with disposable films to digital cameras not because it was necessarily better for the environment, but because it was generally the better technology. Same with lightbulbs.

We didn't ban asbestos for the environment, but because it was bad for people.

We don't try to phase out power hungry fridges and freezers because it's bad for the climate, but because it wastes energy. And, again, technological advancements that create mainly superior technology vs 'the old stuff'. Yes there are exceptions such as the 60s fridge that lasts decades, but those are rare.

Climate change can help to market these changes to a significant group of the population. But acting as if it's only being done becase of this, is silly. Or actively going out of your way to avoid this because you don't like the climate change argument is also a bit strange. Understandable perhaps, but not really very productive.

So no, I'm not a climate change fanatic, but you sure seem quite fanatic in your anti-climate change rhetoric. Hence the irony

According to an RBC study, Canada lost more than $1 trillion in investment to other countries between 2015 and 2024, according to a new analysis from the Royal Bank of Canada.

This was the largest capital outflow in the country’s history. Much of this was due to the climate policy. It appears that this is of not much concern to you. I think it is something being fanatical(or seriously upset) about. Much of that money that we could have used for health care and other important items simply went to despot countries like Russia to fight their war or the Middle East to live their lavish lifestyle.

So, you can make your posts about asbestos or PCB's as what appears to be some sort of mocking about intelligence but I suggest that those who supported the trillion dollar losing strategy are the ones who are the problem.

Then they whine about not making nearly as much money as fellow professional pilots in other areas of the world. Over the last decade, professional salaries in the US have pulled away from us, including the airlines. I suggest that a significant part of the reason is those climate policies. Europe is getting a similar experience. It was all voted for despite the warnings. In 2014, the New York Times wrote an article about Canada having the richest middle class in the world. Any theories on what happened?

Why is Loblaw getting $12M to install new refrigerators?

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna is defending the decision to give up to $12 million in funding to Loblaw so it can install more energy-efficient fridges.

“We have a climate plan that works with everyone. It works with large businesses, small businesses, cities, schools, hospitals, municipalities,” McKenna said when asked by Global News why the company, which had net earnings of roughly $800 million last year, needed taxpayer funds to retrofit its stores.

“Loblaw was one of the 50 winners through the competitive process. Why? Because they can get the most significant emission reductions.”

As digits_ noted your irony detector, and your sarcasm detector are broken. Not everything has to be a "woke conspiracy", as you and others seem to like to believe.

LEDs are more energy efficient, they're also brighter, tend to be quite a bit more resilient than incandescent bulbs, and have a longer lifespan. Yes, they're more expensive than incandescents, but they've certainly come down significantly in price since their introduction on the market.

LEDs bulbs are also recyclable, which is a more difficult proposition with incandescent bulbs. As for plastics, they are recyclable, but too much plastic waste ends up in landfills where it takes between 20-1000+ years to decompose. Plastic recycling is a good thing, but much of those single use items you've eschewed such admiration for end up being trashed rather than recycled. I think we can all agree that creating less garbage is good for the environment, right?

As for heating your home with the elements on your stove, that's a wildly inefficient method of heating. But, whatever floats your boat.

Typical fraud statement. I mentioned in my statement that I tried it as an experiment. The reply is intended to make people think that I am doing it as a regular habit.

More just a stupidity detector is what I have. As mentioned earlier, RBC concluded that a TRILLION dollars of investment left or bypassed Canada much of which is due to climate regulations. THAT has a direct effect on every Canadian, yet the green frauds ignore this and try to direct our focus on minutiae. In fact, I heard a new greenspending estimate today by former minister Joe Oliver headlines as "We Can't Afford 20 Billion Pathway to Nowhere" He mentioned 17 trillion spent globally.

LED's are hazardous waste(or should be). Drop one on the floor, it is a problem. Car accident, it is a problem. People dumping them in landfills(or do you honestly think that plenty of people don't just toss them in the garbage) - Real world my friend, real world. I think we can all agree that less hazardous chemicals in the environment is also good, right?

https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... -concerns/

I do diligently separate my plastics and papers into the recycle bins(as a good citizen), although I don't bother with the food scraps for the green bin.

Time to end the greenscam and the 20 billion dollar Pathways project while building many more pipelines. The trend is hopeful. Too bad the greenfrauds had to create the risk of this country breaking apart though. Elect them at your risk. Their thought process is not logical and frequently....intentionally destructive.

LEDs last a long time. I don't think I've *ever* needed to throw one out. They work really well for landing lights, as you practically never have to worry about it burning out.

I'm sure they do last a long time as landing lights. I was considering just the other day of inquiring about LED's for a more recent type that I have been flying as I was told not to use the landing lights as they get very hot and could cause issues if used on the ground.

But the ones in cars that end up being very bright are really annoying. In fact, it is so bad that TC sent me a questionnaire a couple of months ago asking a variety of questions about the issues of bright car lights at night and the hazards. It would appear that because people have literally been dying due to our green LED's in cars, that regulatory changes may be coming.

How about that comforting feeling for bereaved relatives.....their loved one's died saving the world, which in reality, was just a scam.

God... where do you even start? Heating your home, even irregularly, with your stove burners is inefficient - there's no other way to describe it. Forced air or circulating air, in addition to heating, is what is required to increase/improve efficiency. How is there even an argument about this?

As for LEDs being, in your opinion, hazardous waste is completely false. There are trace amounts of heavy metals, which can easily be recovered during the recycling process along with the circuit boards, etc. What you are referring to about dropping a bulb and creating a hazard, are CFLs - or Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs. These were one of the first steps in a process of getting away from incandescent light bulbs, and are similar in composition to fluorescent light tubes - which contain mercury and are hazardous waste. Dropping a CFL or fluorescent tube does create a cloud of hazardous particles, in addition to the pile of glass and other materials... Dropping a plastic LED bulb, isn't going to do much unless you absolutely smash it.

As for heat from landing lights, you're likely being cautioned about using lights that are halogen bulbs. Halogen bulbs get hot fast, and can cause damage if there isn't adequate cooling from the environment, moving air, etc. Generally the bulbs have a short service life if they undergo consistent use in an environment where there is inadequate cooling, but there is also a potential fire risk due to the heat generated.

You can rail on and on about scams, frauds, and whatever dogwhistle terms you'd like to to try and refute what you feel are "woke" arguments. Disagreements are natural and beneficial to humans, as we can use them to learn and grow. But, when individuals and groups seek to weaponize disagreements, and refuse to participate in meaningful dialogue it's a waste of everyone's time to engage.

I'm reminded of a MacLean & MacLean saying at times like these: "Any idiot can piss on the floor, it takes a real hero to shit on the ceiling."

Re: THE NEXT GIGANTIC ISSUE.

Just to close on a serious note:

The scientific method is not "democratic". It is not decided by consensus. It does not align with government policy.

It is merely a method for unravelling the empirical reality we inhabit, one experiment at a time. Because of its effectiveness, it has been turned into a religion by our rulers, effectively creating a priest class with its own catechism, creed, and blasphemy laws.

The greatest scientists have always been individualistic and deeply skeptical. A hypothesis is one experiment away from being falsified. The best scientists, like the best pilots, always remain humble because they understand the inscrutable nature of reality.

This was all common sense back when we were a serious country, run by serious men. Now, we are a decaying state rapidly collapsing into techno-serfdom, ruled by a rabid theocracy of "experts", whose axiomatically declared "facts" cannot be questioned.

This is not scientific, rational or western. It is a return to an ancient human societal structure: tyranny. And it won't last long. The real scientists are now hounded from polite society for being skeptical. We have returned to the default pre-modern society: a tyrannical theocracy.

This wasn't the Star Trek future "liberals" sold us half a century ago, but quite the opposite. And there will be consequences.
