ALPA membership gets you IFALPA membership. And if you ever find yourself in an accident or locked up in a foreign country I am certain that you will appreciate the resources that are made available.

But don't let that stop you from clinging to the notion that your employer will take care of you.

How's ALPA working for the Transat pilots in Scotland ?

Potentially breaking the law, and being involved in an accident or incident are two very different things. I do know that ALPA membership provides you access to a VERY experienced legal team, free of charge. Whether or not they can prevent your peepee from hitting the meat grinder is entirely dependent on how badly you effed up.

He should perhaps read and learn from the poster "Dagger"'s comments. Now there's someone who's forgotten more about the industry than Realitychex will ever know...

With all due respect to Dagger, a simple look at their respective resumes would tell a different tale. One is a PR/Advertising guy and one helped start up 2 very successful and profitable airlines.

Both likely have a vested interest in sharing their "perspectives" on internet forums. One is likely paid to post as part of strategic public relations duties representing a red airline and one probably has millions of dollars worth stocks with a teal airline.

That's not really much of a dig as most AC employee's don't actively follow the stock price that closely. There is a stock match program for employees, but matches are made annually and based on the dollar amount contributed not the number of shares purchased. The WJ stock program and profit sharing are more generous from what I've been told, but from an employee perspective at AC they're really just 'perks' and certainly not counted on to pay the mortgage and more importantly not used in place of a pension plan.

WJ has an established history of profitability so I gather it employee must be comfortable with having such a large percentage of their income tied to share price and profit sharing. That's good because WJ's hourly wages are certainly at the low end of the industry. What year was the most recent 737 Captain hired? What will be their starting hourly rate? $150/Hour? The CEO has come out and said that if pilots want to see any further WB expansion the pilots are going to have to come to the table?

From what I can see on the "Canadian Pilot Pay" website Westjet pilots make more than Sunwing and Transat pilots even without the company shares etc. I guess when you compare the pay to AC mainline and the American legacy carriers the pay is below them but it seems to me it's the second best airline gig in Canada for pay and it could be argued the best for job security.

9:30-10 hour flight. Plus an 1:15 check in. Plus 1:45 delay. Plus transportation to the airport. Plus 15 minute Check out. Around a 13.5 hour duty day crossing the Atlantic with two guys. Almost as bad as rouge.
