My problems arise when I hear the sense of entitlement conversations from young folks, new hires, or someone wanting to cut off a chunk of my paycheque that after about 35 years I figure that I have paid my dues to have, finally.
When we talk about the Jazz/mainline issues, it is necessary to lay out what the benefits to each side might be without being protectionist. I see that mainline probably has some attactive equipment types for Jazz pilots that they can access. I see some attactive bases that Jazz might have for some AC pilots. If there is a one way street, there is no compromise on one side or another, and it is obvious there will never be an agreement of any sort.
The obvious issue of whipsawing has been in play since the beginning.
The politics of unions is a tough nut to crack. The same players have been at this for years and there are many egos to overcome in that arena alone.
As unlikely that there could be any kind of agreement. Like the factions of Iraq (or any country?), there are vested interests that will throw the proverbial nuke into the mix to attempt to destabilize.
Aisde from the weakness an inaccuracy of generalizations, dragging up the 'greedy mainline pilots' , 'never keep your promises', '$300 M', or 'when Picher is implemented', etc are definite conversation enders.
There will always be the
types attempting to end any conversation on this issue I guess. Trouble is that it is very difficult to find the energy to discuss it any more.
