That’s funny. AC (including jazz) also charges in USD. Maybe it’s an myidtravel thing. Also, I have never gotten charged a conversion rate from my credit card company for myidtravel bookings. It’s always near $50. Maybe you should switch from the KOHO Mastercardcdnavater wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 5:40 pmThat’s funny, Porter sees fit to charge in US currency for myidtravel bookings, which always cost me an extra 5 dollars and then if I don’t use the flight I lose 5 more on the exchange when it goes back on the card, for that reason I barely ever use them for my commute, probably intended.

Re: raccoons unionize
It’s 5 dollars more than I pay for the same flight with WJ or Flair, it’s a BMO card, never heard of KOHO. I used to have a US card but found I wasn’t using it enough to justify the annual fee. I’m pretty sure ALL cards will have an exchange rate that is less than the rate for the day, maybe you should look into it. I would be surprised if you’re not losing on the exchangeCaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 6:36 pmThat’s funny. AC (including jazz) also charges in USD. Maybe it’s an myidtravel thing. I emailed my jumpseat rep, he said your jumpseat rep is trying to get them to change it, I did not realize AC was charging US on myid, I don’t use that for employee travel.

Damn. Porter unionizing discussion getting hijacked to MyID fees and foreign exchange fees for credit cards. There’s a thread direction I never anticipated.

I’ll bring it back.
How much traction is this getting. Mostly dash side or E2? I haven’t heard anything on the line.

Me too, I would get a union before Porter buys AT, ignore this advice at your own peril!CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:03 am I’ll bring it back.

Re: raccoons unionize
FYI, the LEEFF loan to TRZ includes a clause that triggers immediate maturation upon change of control. This is why nobody has even been sniffing around anymore- buying TRZ results in immediately paying $500m to the gov't. So not to worry, I doubt anybody in their right mind could make a play on that to make it work. (This is available in the annual reports btw.)cdnavater wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 11:33 amMe too, I would get a union before Porter buys AT, ignore this advice at your own peril!CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:03 am I’ll bring it back.

Everyone I work with thinks it is long overdue. That said, people don't usually announce whether they are pro/anti-alpa until some shit show occurs and they start to say "this is why we need a proper contract".CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:03 am I’ll bring it back.

Sigh. Would be interesting, I'd be so so surprised if this happened. It doesn't make any business sense.cdnavater wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 11:33 amMe too, I would get a union before Porter buys AT, ignore this advice at your own peril!CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:03 am I’ll bring it back.

I agree. Which is a shame because from a flight ops/market perspective it’s a match made in heaven I’d say.cjp wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 2:24 pmSigh. Re: raccoons unionize
Oh, it makes sense, the only real question is timing!
I would say after a trip through restructuring,
Porter can offer the creditors a plan for returning to profit.
Porter needs to fill their planes, Transat need to fill their planes, Porter doesn’t want or need the debt but you both kind of need each other, Porter will only get so much market without connecting flights, I’m betting it will happen just not sure when.
Re: raccoons unionize
The other thing Porter doesn’t need is legacy costs of an airline that have been around years. Outside of the few Q hubs lots of porters expansion has employees on year 2 or less salary which is important in that big expansion stage to keep cost down, Porter is in a race to expand to scale with a network before the money runs out and they don’t need anything to slow them down over the next 3-5 years.

Maybe they should stop dragging their feet in a ton of issues then. I’m not at Porter just an outside observer so I’m unfamiliar with that issue just stating that Porter doesn’t need to be saddled with a merger and the issues associated with one.8895 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 1:10 pmMaybe they should stop dragging their feet in a ton of issues then.
