Hey bcguy2000

Just wondering how many hours you had when Sean called you. And did you have a contact from within the company?

Have a good time in male. I have some friends there and they are having a ball.

In this Madonna video she refuses to say where she had vacationed... Well guess what WORLD? She was in the Maldives! Got that scoop before Christmas from my buddy over there.

Yep, she was here and I could even tell you the resort she was at. Quite a bit of excitement around the base with her coming and going. She wouldn't allow any pictures to be taken but I managed a nice one of her with her newly adopted baby! I wonder if National Enquirer is interested!!!

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re a pilot.

Not to be a downer but without any Twin Otter time or float time chances of getting hired are next to none... With a float rating they might consider you for the right seat but as posted before, those spots usually go to Maldivian nationals.

I hear ya but it is not too much to get a float rating so I'm just wondering if its worth it. Will I pay for the float rating and still not get hired because of a lack of actual float time?

It would definitely make it harder, however numerous inside Borek guys from the kingair side have gone down and sit right seat with just a float rating.

That being said, it's a whole lot easier to get on with the magic Twotter PPC.

As for a wife, well to put it bluntly, she'll go absolutely nuts while there. 99% of the women do. There's not too much for them to do, and you're gone all the time. They can come on the odd overnight, maybe once a week but you're at work generally from 4:30 am out the door to 7pm home dead tired.

Plus the locals like to gawk and stare at white girls. If they don't get to her, the other nasty pilots you fly with will try to get it on with her.

Trust me, been there, had it attempted on mine numerous times.

I'll put it more bluntly, anyone who takes their wife to the maldives for anything other than a dream vacation needs their freakn head read, unless she's a muslim - then maybe you could external load her on the floats in her kafka and take her on those romantic overnites..gimmee a break

To the last two posters: Have you had your wives down here in the Maldives before or are you just stating your opinion?

Swede not sure when you were here last but lots of guys have wives and girlfriends here and yes lots travel on overnights to the resorts if space is available on the flights. It is no big deal getting approval if space available. We haul wives and girlfriends all the time and we get lots of early shutdowns at the resorts so you get to spend the whole day and sometimes more enjoying what they have to offer. I do agree though that in Male' there is not alot for them to do. Some take up scuba diving, others hang around the apartments relaxing and others learn to keep themselves busy.

Tahnk you for the info CL GUY, I was expecting a straight forward explanation of my question about wives or girlfriends without getting an ignorant answer and you answered that, Swede on the other hand, it was a simple question from someone who is looking for a little informationabout the place no need to be an ass.
CL Guy looking at my time above, What are the chances of getting on during our canadian winter?........... Right seat is fine with me, I just love to fly...

hEY hMMMM,

Yes, your time would be good enough for the 'Dives.

While the company would naturally like full time drivers, seasonal pilots fit in well since we have a rush in Antarctica in the fall, the Arctic in the summer, and the 'Dives about well, now.

A significant other could have an excellent time, or the worst of her existance depending on her nature. In the Mali culture, women, particularly foreign women, are not given pride of place ever.

However the resort shutdowns and the escapes to Sri Lanka, Singapore and sundry other spots are chances that pickle lake pilots rarely see.

You make your own social life, and generally with other expats who work the same schedules.

Given your times, if you were a seasonal pilot, you could giv'er for this year, and go captain with 500 Twin otter floats next year.

Cheers,
JC

More questions.

How do you get paid. When you return to Canada, if that is where you live, do you have to declare this income on your annual canada tax return. Or is this income considered tax free to you?

HEY West Coast,

You could likely PM Gards for cash details, but, unless you are a non-resident of Canada, you will have a tax bill.
