So, for guys that recently went through training how much did you end up spending? What's a good amount to have budgeted?

I am sorry but that is stretching it buddy! I don't think any pilot would expect to have their commute accomodation costs paid for just because they were put up during initial GS.... unless they are ex Alitalia maybe!?
So my point is, what is more important or the difference for that matter? Not getting a good sleep during GS or not getting a good sleep before you go flying people around in an airplane?
Again.... stretching it! No comparison between having the responsibility of 100+ lives in the back and waking up in time for class.

That said, I also believe ther is a big difference between saving on fuel, acars messages etc and providing accomodation during groundschool. I see the profit sharing "down the road" point but why not put someone up for even the first two weeks? Give them a fighting chance in hell of finding their own place. I am sure most of us here have changed jobs at least once and although a full month notice before course start is fine and dandy, we all know that finding accomodation unless you are there looking is hard, and many wont have the luxury of heading out to Calgary to look for a place before GS start.
