Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
I was called for an interview last week.
I'm a DSH8 F/O with a CURRENT Dash8 PPC ... I'm still hesitating to call them back cuz it just don't seem right to pay $15000 when you're already trained !
But then again, I love the Dash8 and I need a job .... what to do :S

Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
Pilots who are already current on the aircraft are paying for a job? Money up front for jobs on aircraft they already fly? 15K?
RETARD RETARD RETARD RETARD
Any questions?

At least call and confirm this is true... I've heard it is, but it's always been second hand info, so you never know.DeltaHotel wrote:I'm a DSH8 F/O with a CURRENT Dash8 PPC ... I'm still hesitating to call them back cuz it just don't seem right to pay $15000 when you're already trained !
Twenty years from now you'll be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did do.

Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
If it is true, there has been a change in policy. I was hired in 2005 with a DH8 rating and that was good enough. As it should be. If you already have the rating, then WTF is the 15K for? There is no cost to the company to get you working. Unless Pam Anderson is doing the WHIMS training.

Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
I hope for your sake they still don't ask for 15k! Times are tough in the industry but if your typed and you cost zero dollars to train Id be interested in hearing the justification for cash up front!

With a current Dash8 PPC ... 15k bond is pretty much like a $15000 loan .... interest free !

Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
Please, just walk away. If someone is going to drop 15 large at least he or she should get a new type rating out of it. Putting up money on an aircraft you're already PPC'ed and current on is slanted way too far in VAL's favour.
Look at it this way. For 15 grand you can get a bond on a light jet. If things don't work out, you've got a jet PPC and hopefully some time, plus your Dash 8 time and rating. Isn't that better and more interesting than only having the Dash 8?

With the way the economy is in the States, I'm willing to bet you could get a 757/767, or a 737NG type rating for 15K, if you shop around. And, as a bonus, you'd be able to hold your head high?Conquest Driver wrote: Look at it this way. For 15 grand you can get a bond on a light jet. It's fucking common sense.. if everyone stops paying for the job, then maybe they'll start PAYING THE PILOTS for the job. What a shit show. Best of luck 3AO.

Invertago,
I second that. I'd fly a DHC8 or a B1900 metro or hell even a 206 or 208 (just to name a few)for the rest of my life. I have no huge desire for the heavy iron.
I'd sooner settle for a company with a good schedule, good working condtions, good people, good maint and a high level of safety and professionalism than go to the majors. Its not tough to keep me happy. However, if the aforementioned are missing then I'll want to get the hell out!
I'll never understand people who are all rah rah employer loyalty when the employer provides no loyalty or integrity themselves.. Why should we be loyal and respectful if we are not treated like human beings.. or provided an appropriate work environment. Simply bending over and taking whatever is thrown at us by employers does NOTHING to erode that power structure which desperately needs to crumble...instead we sit here apathetic thinking we cannot change anything.. and as a result watch the working conditions go down the tube.

Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
Aviation is just like any job. Yes, there is way way way more training money involved but aside from that its JUST A NORMAL job.
If people dread going to work (been there) employees will leave. I don't care if its flipping burgers, working at a garbage dump or emptying sewers its all the same. You can get people to do those tasks and still have them enjoy going to work. If people don't want to go to work their quality of life goes down.. you get depressed etc. Who needs that? Who would stay at a company for that? This is why people jump ship. (I'm not saying that there is a minute percentage of low- lifes who jump ship ) But why not get a promissary note?
I recently changed spots for the more money/ stability thing at a non-aviation job. Before I was working a job that was aviation related .. the hours were all over the place, pay not so great (very small start up company). BUT! The boss was amazing, treated his employees like gold (don't get me wrong.. if you stepped out of line he'd tell you) and I loved my crew! In a second I would go back there! Why? Because I enjoy going to work. I'd quit my higher paying company (non-aviation) with benefits etc. and go back to the old job in a second!
