Re: got the new licence
My old senior commercial (with the diagonal stripe) still has the 'X' on the back for radio licence. Got it all covered.

Re: got the new licence
I carry my old ATPL with the green stripe on it because it has the radio license printed on it.

Re: got the new licence
Would it be unreasonable to make a radio licence a requirement for a CPL? That way, everybody who holds a CPL would have a radio licence? Too simple I guess.
Re: got the new licence
If they keep the radio license seperate, one day they can charge us for it.

Quote: “You'd think they'd send ya something in the mail.”
That would require Transport Canada to correctly record a customer’s change of address and use the new address! I mailed in Transport Canada’s own change of address form MPS-030 (0409-03) back in the spring and have since received two items of mail forwarded from my old address. I presume when the Canada Post forwarding service expires I will no longer receive any mail from TC. Note that I complied with the legal requirement to inform TC of my change of address and I have a post office receipt to confirm it. That is the end of my responsibility. I am not responsible for dereliction of duty or incompetence of TC employees if they fail to record and use my new address.
Quotes: “Keep in mind that the Red Pass/RAIC is not government-issued... It is issued by the individual airport authorities”
“So, it's possible that only the airport authority system has access to the photo and not the government,”
The Transport Canada Security Clearance program (RAIC/Red Pass/ Airside security pass/etc.) is a federal government program. The federal government mandated it and sets the requirements. Individual airport “authorities” act only as agents of the federal government in this federal government program. It is obvious that the federal government has access to the verified photos that it requires be taken as part of one of its own programs. There is no doubt that for every individual who has applied for a Red Pass/RAIC the federal government (TC) has on file somewhere a verified photo. All TC staff have to do is use what they already have on file.
Further, there is at least one verified digital photo in government records for every Canadian who has a Canadian passport, provincial or territorial driver’s licence, provincial or territorial photo ID card or provincial or territorial photo health card. Just how many do they need? Doh! All they have to do is talk to each other and work together to efficiently and cost-effectively provide the services that Canadians need. That should be a no-brainer! Remember, we are all paying taxes to support inter-government affairs ministers and public servants in each government in Canada. This is exactly the sort of issue where they should long ago have earned their taxpayer funded indexed salaries and resolved the problem in a manner that does not cause unnecessary expense and trouble to individual Canadians/customers. Why are we even discussing it? That in itself indicates that there is something seriously wrong with Canadian government programs and their delivery.
What about the “not thought of here” mentality that pervades our governments? The US long ago solved the pilot licence issue in a simpler manner. All TC had to do was copy the FAA’s credit card size licence complete with photo and other relevant information. If asked, the FAA would probably have helped TC to implement it here.
Then of course the new booklet is supposed to include everything a pilot needs to have with him so where does it include the radio licence? Don't federal government departments work together to provide efficient service to the public?

Re: got the new licence
Remember Transport canada takes care of automobiles and trains as well so the equipment creating drivers licenses would be available to them which is all the FAA licenses are simply replace "Driver" with "Pilot" and TADA!!!All TC had to do was copy the FAA’s credit card size licence complete with photo and other relevant information. If asked, the FAA would probably have helped TC to implement it here.
Re: got the new licence
Transport Canada does regulate railways along with aviation but drivers and vehicles are provincial matters. That is why one needs a new driver's licence and vehicle registration when changing provinces but the same pilot's licence is accepted throughout Canada.
Regardless public servants in all jurisdictions should all work together to provide a hassle-free and cost-effective service to Canadians.

Duplication of services is what makes Canada great! Where else will all those snivel serpents work? They'll all be on the dole, or working for GM. Who is the biggest employer in Canada? Government. Exactly why we have a federal tax department and a Quebec tax department, a 200-page tax document that takes lawyers and accountants to complete. I could go on, but you seriously expect that TC would be the poster boy for efficiency in Canada? Smoke one for me, too.

All ATPLs and CPLs in the old format will be replaced by March 31, 2009. To retain licence validity, current document holders must apply for an Aviation Document Booklet to replace their old format licences.
The following from TC's website must be new:
Airline transport pilot licences (ATPL) and commercial pilot licences (CPL) were the first to be processed into the new booklet format. Air Traffic Controller and Flight Engineer licences along with Private, Commercial and Airline Transport Pilot Licences in the old format will be replaced by the Aviation Document Booklet by 31 December 2009. Re: got the new licence
Does anyone know what will happen if you hold more then one license? Will they be combined into one booklet, or will you have to carry two booklets? A few examples may be if you fly both fixed and fling wing machines, or fixed wing and gliders... If they do send out two books, what happens when you renew your medical? Do you only get one sticker, and have to decided which license you want to be medically fit for? I happen to be in this boat (or plane if you will...) and have not gotten my new license. Just wondering what to expect when it arrives in the mail.

Re: got the new licence
algore,
When you submit your initial application for your booklet license, you just indicate all your licenses in the space provided. Myself, I have commercial helicopter, private aeroplane, and glider.
So on my Application for Aviation Document Booklet, in the top right box; License/Permit Number , I would indicate CHxxxxxx, Pxxxxxx, and Gxxxxxx.
It's quite a relief actually, initial plans were to have separate booklets for each license, which would have meant multiple photos and mulitple renewals for us.
My suggestion for a plastic sleeve in the back of the book to hold other documents that we may require (TDG, AVOP, Elementary Maintenance, Radio License, etc) must have fallen on deaf ears

Re: got the new licence
I hand-delivered my application to a TC office on Dec 3 .... on Jan 15, I'm still waiting for the new booklet ....
Meanwhile, I signed a co-workers application on Dec 20 He mailed his in ( read - Slow Christmas mail ! ) and received his new booklet on Jan 6.
What gives with that ?
It may have been due to my Medical due date of Dec 31. I got the new Medical stamp on Dec 17, and WTF?...an old style one-page Medical certificate just showed up here on Jan 14.
I'm so confused ?
FICU, I copied/pasted that blurb from TC, So it is a new date. Good to know

Re: got the new licence
I've lost that orange piece of paper my original radio licence was printed on back in the late 60's. Actually I think it just disintegrated after being in my wallet for 40 years. Who do I contact in the gumitup to get a replacement.
Thanks

Re: got the new licence
I think it is the Dept of Industry now. Found mine in an old PPC card. Now to find my Whimis & Dg....
Re: got the new licence
Are we using the same application? The form I have has a small line asking for license permit number... I thought I was just to drop the prefix from the license and just send the 6 digit number... ie. AA123456, I just put 123456 on the line... Maybe thats why they havn't sent me my new booklet? When I handed in my application in person, the licensing officer told me it was filled out properly, and that if she had any issues, she would call me back... that was over 6 weeks ago. incidentally, I asked the licensing officer what whould happen because i had two licenses, and she didn't know the answer...
odd...

Did you use your actual name or your AvCanada name? 'Cause they might have an Al Gore living at a different address.

O.K. here is another question.
If you hold both a Commercial License and also a ATPL will they send you two books or one?

Don't confuse your license/permit number with your file number.
Your file number (found on your medical) would be 123456.
Your license/permit number has the phonetic prefix, specific to the license permit you qualified for. Using your example; AA123456 is your fixed wing license/permit number, G123456 is your glider license/permit number, and so on.
You would be lying if you said you were shocked the licensing officer didn't have an answer for you....right?
I have no idea why it has to be so confusing...wait...it's the government.

with your qualifications, Cat, you will get a library.
I think you can choose free shelf, or bookends with the order.
