COngrats,

Your on your way to:
making 900 bucks every 2 weeks. Cant even whipe your ass with that...
Getting shafted by benefits cause they go up every year and ALPA does nothing about it.
Living in a crash pad while all your other friends are earning a descent income with real paying jobs and nice homes.
Paying close to 100 bucks a month to ALPA which is worthless.
Gettting your pay deducted so much that you cant justify even showing up for work...

Dont worry things will get better with the next contract.
GOOD LUCK...

Hi guys,

Good luck for you! They've look at my resumé i would say 4 times, but i'm not sure. Because I switched too, to non-searchable. I have 1870 to be precise, 550 PIC twin Turbine (BE10) and 1300 PIC twin (Twin Cessna, PA31-PA34) . All I want is to leave tier three level. Depends on each persons needs. I'm ready to take a small drop in salary to get a life and be with family, than more more money and 8 hour drive from home and beeing alone. Nice home is not the only thing in life... They are goods and bads in every jobs, and we have to deal with this as pilots.

Best of luck!

The first 2 years of low pay go fast. Sure, the pay isn't amzing after that but it's decent. We have a good benefits package and if you're fortunate enough to have a spouse with benefits you can opt out because ours is overpriced.

Qwert, I am assuming that you work at Jazz,

If you are not happy with ALPA then why don't you help out? A union is not a bunch of people out there doing all of the work for us while we sit here and bitch. We are all ALPA members, we all pay dues, so we should all give our input if we are not happy. The P2P committee needs volunteers.

You are obviously not happy here so it safe to assume you are looking elsewhere. So what happened, Did WJ, AC, EK. CX, AT, SW all turned you down? If you are not looking, than maybe you should for your sake, Having Jazz on your resume will help you, it has helped many. Hey maybe you should just quit anyways and go work for Voyageur, or Keystone, and pay for you own PPC and make less money than at Jazz.

Now,if you don't work at Jazz, then why do you care if others are applying to work here? That is their choice to make, and I think most already know, or are resourcefull enough to find out what the conditions are.

Don't mean to be harsh but you are not really helping, Bitching here will accomplish F#$% all. Either get involved and help out or go elsewhere where you will be happy.

Rant over

I've been told it's 50 guys... 8 per month until full.

navajo jay just said he got called for an interview and he has under 2000 hours. Where does this 3500 hour average you speak of come from? It does not reflect the ad or past hiring at all.

An RJ FO was mentioning it. but was thinking since there isnt much hiring going on they can be more selective with candidates.

The bid shows 12 rj spots for YYZ and YUL. Not too sure about Calgary or YVR. The remainder were, obviously dash opening, system wide. Hope this helps.

Jazz bases are Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax (Halifax is only a DH8 base).

Average new hires are multi-turbine Captains, ie: B200, B1900, Cheyenne, Conquest, Metro.

They basically handed out too many leaves of absence (LOAs) and reduced time blocks (RTBs) when fuel was $147/bbl. Now they're screwed because Mothership is upping the flying.

Very good company to work for, you will never look back.

Don't get your hopes up about an RJ spot. They will all be Dash I believe. Remember, a significant amout of hiring was done between 2005 and 2006. Those guys who got the Dash and wanted the RJ have now completed their two years on type and will bid over to the RJ opening up Dash spots. I think the days of new hires getting the RJ are over.

Oh yeah, in the spirit of full disclosure, that's my opinion only and I also predicted Jazz wouldn't hire again until 2012, so take that for what it's worth.

Jazz runs 2 bids per year (Jan, Jul, more if req) The Jan. bid showed 44 vacancies. For now, that is all they will need. Next bid is in July. It can either show vacancies, no openings, or reductions. So we will not find out untill then IF they will hire more......This could be anyone's guess.

All positions were on the RJ, all bases. There was only shuffling of bases on the Dash, Vacancies out West with reduction in the East. Like mentioned before, it does not means that the newhires will be getting these positions, nor does it mean the they will even hire 44 pilots.

These positions will be offered internally first. They will also try to recall pilots on LOA's, RTB's, etc first. Then whatever is left will be offered to newhires at the groundschools. We won't know what the newhires will get until the bid award comes out in mid Feb.

Hope this helps.

Heard from a very reliable source that the number is set at 40 new hires (for now). Equipment and bases to be decided once the internal shuffling happens. Shuffling being for guys who were downgraded, commuting and bidding where they actually wanna live and dash guys who I'm sure are now unfrozen and may bid CRJ.

When I was hired last year, almost 80% of all new hires were to the RJ. For the month before and 2 months after my class, all hiring was pretty much predictable in each class: 6-7 RJ spots, 2 Dash spots. I drew 2nd last in my class and still managed to get the RJ. I just wanted a YYZ base, but ended up with YUL, and after 3 short weeks I had a base trade to YYZ.

According to the bid, almost all vacancies are RJ, with the bulk being YYZ and YUL. I believe there were 7 spots in YYC and 1 in YVR for FOs.

When we had the downbid in the summer, there were several guys bumped off the RJ from YUL and YYZ, who bumped into YYC RJ, YYC dash and YVR dash. If they bid back, then there will be more western bases opening up. It all depends on what these people want to do, and if people on freeze decide they want to switch planes. Some guys Ive spoken with have no desire to bid the RJ or to move back into the base they were bumped out of.

Whatever you guys get offered, keep in mind YYZ is by far the best base no matter what airplane.

GOOD LUCK...

ON THE FLIP SIDE.....

First year pay 36,800 Second year 42,000

Per diems average 600 a month X12 mo = 4800 tax free. earned income on that would be $6500 (Ive had 400 a mo and as high as 750) Also free crew meals, you CAN make money on per Diem's and you would be spending money to eat if you were not at work right?

4 weeks Vacation first 3 years, then 5 weeks, maxing out at 7 weeks. 4weeks pay = $3068

I work on average 16 days a month. Min days off for a month is 12 days. Average Two weeks off a month. my time= Priceless!

Total 46,368 for the first year. Second year 51,400 No offence but for a guy with 2500 hours that's not bad money for a first year AND you get to live in a REAL CITY. Your not flying black hole approaches into shithole gravel strips on a medevac at 0315 in a snow storm with no runway advisory either....

Benefits.

Travel passes! For example, I did a trip to Europe for 3 weeks, the airfare cost me 163 bucks! I got an free upgrade both ways, retail cost on that trip was over $9000.00! AND you get with your airline ID on hotels and resorts.

ALPA. lots of reasons to hate on them BUT....GOD forbid you prang one up and transport is on ur ass and some yanks named your ass in a class action lawsuit ALPAs lawyers are going to be there for you. Also have access to a team of doctors and support systems among many more benifits.

Opportunity to work 2 days off a month for overtime. Extra 500 bucks!

No Bond! free uniform!

KEEP IN MIND

Someone else; fuels me, deices me, cleans my plane, boards the pax, briefs the pax, loads the bags, files my flight plan, etc and best of all I work with great people.

AND YES, THE NEXT CONTRACT WILL BE AN IMPROVEMENT....If its not its still better one of the best gigs in Canada, those who hate on this job obviouly havent flown a smelly body, a clapped out navajo, flung bags on a 8 leg 13 hour day, worked for people who try to mind fuk you into flying overweight etc or cleaned up puke in the back of a plane. Feel sorry for them for they dont know how good they have it :D

Good Luck with your interview!!

Good points Black Cat. I would say just about everybody at Jazz has flown the shitty medevacs into gravel strips with only flarepots on it before they came here. It's a great job, unfortunately the pay has not kept up. Those of us who have been here since before 9/11 and CCAA have seen our pay reduced by at least 40% when you count inflation and are working more days than we used to. It's hard to be excited about what we have now when we know how good we had it in the past. Here's hoping for good things later this year.

Forsure Swervin, it would be disheartening from your point of view too know what u had at one time and to go backwards. As for qwerts post, I don't know if he is trolling or what but I don't think its anywhere near as he says, if i were that miserable I would be looking for another job asap though. I hope more guy like him move on to thier dream jobs and let me climb up a few spots ;)

For me the worse case of staying here for 25 years, being 50 years old with 25 years seniority and make 110K flying the sturdy Dash 8 or whatever its replaced with, having 7 weeks of vacations a year, 16 day work month, a schedule, a seniority system letting me have Christmas off every year, my pick of summers weeks off, and and to home with my family every night...if I want :D Not a bad plan B

I like your attitude Black Cat!

What the the chances of someone that got the PFO last year getting a call now? I would be curious to know what the job market/competition looks like right now compared to last year.
