The Mensa take people with IQ scores in the top two percent. The IQ test is scored on a bell curve which means that it is normative. This means that 2 out of every 100 people could qualify to join the Mensa. Take just the USA population of 300,000,000, take two percent of that, and you will notice that 6,000,000 Americans are eligible to join the Mensa, yet there are only 100,000 members world wide. Out of the population that can join the Mensa, less than 2% choose to do it. Why?
I think I know why!
This next stuff is taken from the Mensa Constitution:
As conditions of membership, members must:
Pay the annual dues as set or modified from time to time by their national Mensa committee, or by the International Board of Directors if they are direct international members; and
MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING
A "member in good standing" shall be a person who has accepted an offer of membership, has paid all dues owed, and is not currently subject to any sanction imposed by a national Mensa or by the International Board of Directors.
To be a member of Mensa, it seems you must only pay your membership dues.
So by telling us you are a part of this organization, you have revealed to us, that you belong to a tiny population (100,000) of what I would call
stupid book-smart people, who are willing to dish out money every year so that you could maintain this status.
